I have 3 different rooms booked at DGC in May for a family trip I am paying for. These rooms were booked directly with Disney, not AAA or anyone else. They do have the park hoppers added on, but that wasn't part of a package, just a convenience thing. My question is, if I have my DVC points by then, can I convert these existing reservations to be paid for with points?

Question 2. I see tons of renting points threads, but do alot of people really rent points? Would I be able to rent out points fairly easily? I ask becasue we already have the trip in 08 planned, and an Adventures by Disney trip reserved in January 09, so any points I might get soon I would not be able to use before they expire.

Thanks

No, you can't convert cash rooms to points or vice versa. They are different inventories.

I have never rented points in either direction, as the rentor or the rentee, so I can't help you on question #2.

My advice? Don't purchase any points you don't intend to use yourself.

No, I don't want to rent and I'm not planning on purchasing more points than I intend to use. I don't think I explained myself well.
I already have these two large Disney trips planned: For May of 08 and January of 09. I am just now looking at a resale, and when the right thing comes up at the right price, I'd like to buy. My problem is that I'm nervous that whatever points come 'left over' on the property, plus the coming year's points, I won't be able to use before they expire. I just hate the thought of points disappearing without someone being able to use them. I am not keen AT ALL on renting points..that seems like a nerve racking headache to me..just don't want this first batch of points to expire. After that I'd be able to plan. If I wasn't such a planner I wouldn't have this issue at all, but I got the DLR reservations the minute 08 prices came out, and my ABD reservation as soon as I got the book. I guess that's one down side to being an uber planner :)
Is there anyplace to put points to keep them from expiring? Can you transfer them to the Member Getaways area as reservation points?

Yes you can. But there are certain regulations on the time of use year that you can do this. Call your guide and talk to them about your possible new contract to get the ins and outs about banking your points into an II exchange. Friends of our did this. And to be honest, I'm not sure how or if it works with banked points.
