Converting A Half Marathon Time into a Marathon Time

I plan on running a half marathon to turn in a timed race for the marathon. How will disney convert that to determine what corral I am in?

Also, what distance race do I need to half my time count for the marathon? Do I need to run a half? Does a 10k work?

There are a few formulas out there that will approximate the adder for increasing from a half to a full. I find the McMillan Race calculator to be the simplest to use and a decent approximation – assuming good training.

I do not know exactly how runDisney sets up their comparison tables but have never had a runner incorrectly corrals claiming a time from this calculator.

You can submit times for any race 10k or longer as proof to back up an estimated time. Note, the McMillan calculator will also estimate the full from any race length. Accuracy goes down with the shorter races.

Thank you. It is good to know that a great 10k time would work as well. My personal best for the 10k (training only) is 1:04:43. I think I can improve that.

Quick Question: I know that for the WDW Marathon 2014 you have to show proof of a time for 5 hours or less.

What would be the slowest half marathon time (IYHO) that I can get to get into the sub5 hr corral? Obviously, you dont know the answer for sure, but just asking your opinion.

Second, if I have a timed 10k, can I submit that for a better corral in the marathon or does it have to be a half marathon? Thank you.

Tough to say exactly how the runDisney algorithm calculates things, but I'd say a half time of 2:25 or better ought to get you a 5-hour marathon seeding.

I submitted a half time of 2:28:50 and that got me into the sub 5 hr corral (corral D) this yr. Who knows if it would be the same next year though.

Do we know if when you register has anything to do with it? Does rD fill corrals as people register? So if one registers towards the end, and the corral they want is already full, they end up in a later corral? I registered before it opened to the public.

I would claim a 4:50 or so marathon with your 65 minute 10k. Generally, the rD folks will give a little reach in your estimated time goal.

unfortunately, the 65minute 10k was training, not a race. However, am I understanding correctly that I can submit a 10k race time for the marathon?

Strange but true. I find that the correlation starts to fall of. The shortest race for the full was a 10 miler which make a little more sense.

I would attempt a hard 10k effort to get into your best corral.

I am a little confused. First you say that I can submit a 10k race time for my full marathon registration. Then you say the shortest for the full is a 10 miler.

I am trying to planning my racing schedule so I know which races to look for to get the best corral. Thank you for your help.
