Convention Ticket Question

Hi,
My brother is attending a convention in the Orlando area and we are thinking of joining him for a 5 day Disney vacation. He said he can get us discounted tickets through the "Walt Disney World Convention Ticket Store" website. A few questions:

1) He may not be with us when we hit the parks. Are they going to require some form of proof that there is a convention attendee with us, in order to let us into the parks?

2) The website says the ticket expire and must be used no later than 12/31/10. Does this mean that we could buy the tickets in conjunction with his May convention and use them in December?

3) Any other restrictions on these tickets that I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance.

I am by no means an expert on convention tickets, but some only allow entry after 2pm or 4pm. Last time we purchased those through our convention desk (several years ago) it was only a discount of $15 or so even with the late entry. There may be full tickets available, depends on what the convention contracted and if full day tickets are an option.

IIRC we had to show photo I.D., proof of attending the convention, and have our printed confirmation from the convention website link to pick up the tickets. After the tickets were issued we were not asked for proof of attendence each time we entered the parks, but they wouldn't allow admission one minute before 2pm with our restricted tickets. As far as using them in December, it again depends on the terms in the contract, but I would guess they still expire 14 days after first use, and if so then you couldn't use them in both May and December.

As with all things Disney, things change. This was my experience, but it was several years ago. I'd be interested to see what is offered currently for convention tickets.

I've used convention tickets a few times, the most recent being 3 weeks ago. They offer regular, full day park hopping, water park & more tickets just like you'd buy as a regular park guest, at a slightly discounted price. They do also sell an after 2pm ticket and an after 4pm ticket.

You do NOT need to be attending the conference yourself or even have that person with you at anytime while picking up or using the tickets. DH was always the conference attendee, and he was not with us in the parks. He was not with us when picking them up at Will Call. On the Conventionears website, when purchasing the tickets, it will ask you who is picking them up at Will Call. I said it was myself (spouse) and they did ask for a photo ID of me when I picked them up, but never asked about the convention or who was attending.

Our tickets also said they had to be used by 12/31/10. You'd have to have the non-expiration option added to be able to split the ticket - in other words to use some now, and some later. If you don't have that option you have to use all the days within 14 days of first use.

When I purchased our convention tickets online there was a promo for a free "fun" option on the tickets. We just got regular MYW tickets with Park Hopping (no waterparks) and then had the free fun option too. We used ours for DisneyQuest.

Hi,

Convention tickets can't be upgraded after purchase as far as I know. You'd need to be sure you purchased the right number of days and options when you buy it.

The convention ticket link I have access to says the first day of use of the tickets must be within seven days of the convention and that they expire 14 days from first date of use. The no expiration option is not available.

These are both correct.
