When a convention sponsors events in the parks such as an Illuminations dessert party, do the people attending get park tickets? Can you explore the park, ride rides, use fastpass or are you confined to your group activities area?

I have an AP but I need to know if my coworker will need a ticket to explore EPCOT before and after the sponsored event.

TIA

I think it depends on what the convention purchases. I went to Lotushere 3 years ago, and they rented the entire MK. All E ticket rides were open, but you had to have a Lotushere "ticket" - no general admission. So the sponors could have rented deserts only in a specific area, or deserts and admission tickects. You should check the convention's web site to see it they have more details.

With Epcot, conventions often bring convention guests in just before Illuminations (sometimes right after a dinner at the old Millenium pavillion, if I hear correctly). I'm not sure, at that point, that they work that hard to keep the convention guests corraled given that what they're offering these guests is about the best viewing experience available -- not much cause for those folks to slip away.
