Controversial McDonald's Ad from France

Really? I don't think it's sad at all.

I don't think the dad is unaccepting, I think the son just hasn't told him yet. The little eye roll the son gives him at the end made me think the son feels his dad is hopelessly clueless, but not unaccepting or unloving.

I got the sense that "come as you are" was an indication that this was where and when the son chose to tell his dad that he's gay.

It looked completely positive to me!

I agree. I think the ad is well done, though I agree it will never play in the US.

I found it very sweet. My interpretation is similiar to Rob's. Young man with a clueless dad. To me McDonald's is saying "come as you are" be who you are, you're welcome here.

I agree with you. The end of this ad is hopeful. We can even imagine a sequel to this ad, where the son takes the chance of being at McDonald's, to say to his father he's gay.

I'm proud of this new ad by McDo. I hope, this ad will help people in France to accept homosexuality. Because in France it's still tabou, even if people say being tolerant. My biggest wish is our goverment will realize that it's time to recognize gay wedding.

Why this kind of ad can't be played in the US ? Are people not ready to accept homosexuality ? Is it a political matter ?

Does some states accept gay wedding ?

dh is french) for 8 years, and i can honestly say that the french are very open about sexuality/same sex/gay couples.
i have many gay friends, who i love dearly, some "settled" others not, and have been out many times with them both with and without oh, and no one, and i mean no one, blinks, at all.
men kiss on streets, its just part of their culture, the french do not judge, and im not suprised the McDs have started their ad campaign in france.
mcds are masters at advertising, their ability to target their market is 2nd to none, same sex couples are obviously their next "thing".

hope my posting over here has not offended, but as a food teacher, this was something that interested me.

I don't feel offended, but I'm just disagree with you. I'm French, I live in France and I'm gay. All I can say you, is the French judge a lot. Not in front of, but in the back of others.

In general people are tolerant when you say your gay, they accept that you may be attracted by someone of the same sex, you're in love. But they don't want imagine that you may have sex relations with someone of the same sex than you. You can trust me, that's what I live every day, with my straight friends, my collegues and my family when we are talking about that.

I don't know where were you living, when you were in France, but I suppose this must be in a big city like Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux, and so on. Where that's right, the mentalities are differents, because these cities are more cosmopolitans, more young minded.

Where I live, I can assure you that if two boys (or two girls) are kissing in the street. They would be judged by the others.
When I'm in a couple and I have a walk with my boyfriend. we don't kiss in the streets and we don't hold by the hand either. Because people look at you like a phenomen and you can hear them talking about you.

I don't speak well enough English, to expose you my thougths, but this debate also interest me. I hope I've been understandable in my post.

i have been described as many things, but never CSp
i love the accepting attitude of gay people, i find some people (fill in adjective...judgemental?)
frenchmickey...yes, i lived in paris 2years and then reims for 8 years, we had gay friends in both cities and were involved in the gay community in both cities.
yes, kissing was prob more accepted in paris, but to be honest, it happened in reims, and no one cared (which is the way it should be).
if im allowed to kiss my husband, why are you not allowed to kiss yours???

Sure, I would being allowed to kiss the one I love on the streets, like you can kiss your husband. Because we're just talking about LOVE.

I posted this add on my facebook with an open call for opinions and got all positive responses. I think McDonald's PR knows their crowd and though this ad would not make it in the US because of a certain population of people that would cause an uproar, it was done well. It's too bad that some people in the US aren't more accepting but way to go McDonald's! (Although, I still won't eat your food.)
