How do you all keep from excessively worrying?I have the day off today, and without my mind occupied by work, I feel like I am just worrying about everything. Here are my worries...normal or excessive? Okay, my daughter was sick this week, now she is back in school, but of course I'm worrying about her. My ds 19 is in his own place, in another town, I worry about all the driving he has to do, that he has been sick but won't see a doctor, etc. I have to go for amnio in 2 weeks. I am worried about complications from the procedure, the results, all of that stuff. On a lighter note, I am getting new furniture today, and I'm worrying that it might not look good. Ok, I could go on and on....do you think I am excessively worrying or just going thru a hi anxiety patch. Any suggestions on how to control my worries? Thanks in advance.

I find doing something, anything to keep busy helps to control some of my worrying. I'm a worryholic myself.:o

I have this little magazine clipping on my computer that says
" Worry is like a rocking chair. It keeps you busy but gets you nowhere."

It helps to give me a little more perspective when I get too bogged down. Hope it helps.:D

Some people can't control worrying. Talk to your Dr....they have medication that can help, even while pregnant. I have a friend who USED to be horrible.

I used to worry a lot, to the point of mild panic attacks (and some not so mild). Ok so I still worry, but not like I used to. I didn't want to take any medication, so my therapist taught me coping mechanisms. For me, I have to stop the "spiral" of my worry. What works for me is reading a book or playing a video game, just something to break my mind out of the spiral and have it focus and concentrate on other things. The hardest part was realizing WHEN I was in that spiral but once I got that down, the rest was easy.

So my advice to you is GO DO SOMETHING!

I agree with Lewski709. Chronic worrying is something you should see your doctor about. A freind of mine let worrying control her life until she started taking Paxil. She is a completeky new person. She was able to take it while she was pregnant as well.

However, there are times in our lives when we just worry more than others. If worrying starts to interfere with normal, daily activities, it is time to see someone.

This is a stressful time for you. Talk to your OBGYN next appointment. In the mean time, maybe you need to take some time for yourself. Take a walk outside (if you can stand the temperatures), put on some of your favorite music - loud - and sing. That is a great stress-reliever for me. Take a bath. Get a pedicure.

Take care of yourself.

My question to you is: What would you be doing if you weren't worrying?

I always try to focus on the here and now...staying present. My mind can worry or go totally future focused if I let it. I just try to live "in the moment".
