Controlling hunger?

Are there any natural foods/herbs that will control hunger? All the supplements I've found advertise fat loss/speed metabolism. Is there anything that naturally supresses the "hunger center" in your body? (Other than chocolate? :eek: )

Hunger or cravings? In the Atkins book it suggests taking L-Glutamine for cravings.. When I remember to take it it helps me. As far as hunger, I try to drink alot of water, that seems to give me that full feeling so I am not so hungry.
 
i thought chromin piculate (sp?) was good for controlling the cravings for sweets?? maybe gotta get me some of that!

chug water! when you feel like grazing there is a good chance you are getting dehydrated instead. alot of times our bodies misread a thrist urge for hunger!

my DH says to chew gum when you want to graze -- or sometimes I brush my teeth:teeth:
 

Thanks, I'll up my water intake. Several years ago, when I started my weight loss, my Doc gave me a prescription for Bontril. It totally suppressed my appetite. I'm not fighting cravings, just thinking I need to eat whenever I feel the slightest hunger.
I don't want another prescription, I was hoping there was a natural suppressant I could use.
 
Maybe take a look at the newer Dexatrim Naturals line... it may be what you're looking for, or may point you in the right direction.

You can also ask the people at your local health food store... they're quite often a good source of info.
 
I eat low carb - mostly Atkins style - and I find that I am usually not hungry.

I also eat smaller meals or snacks more often...every 2-3 hours.

When I do find myself feeling hungry, it usually is because I'd forgotten to eat sooner...not necessarily a craving...so I find something on my plan to eat.

When you feel hungry ask yourself...

Am I really thirsty? Have a glass of water and wait 15-20 minutes. If you are still hungry, then you are hungry.

Why am I hungry? If you've recently eaten, why are you hungry now, what triggered the feeling of hunger? Emotional eating or boredom eating are really hard harbits to break. Find other ways to reward, comfort or amuse yourself.

Hungry for food not on your plan? What are you missing from your diet? I recently added more fruits and berries back into my diet and my cravings for something sweet disapeared.

I follow the Atkins plan and I find that I forget to eat. What if you planned several small meals every 2-3 hours? That might be helpful.
