Continued Bad News/Possible Changes for Disney Store?

Anyone interested should go check out the new Disney stuff at Target if they haven't yet. The electronic things are real cute and if I was decorating a Disney room, I'd definitely be interested.

As for cheap stuff at Wal-Mart, Disney sells cheap stuff nowadays so why not do it through Wal-Mart? Now, if they upgrade their quality, that's different.

Target also has Disney stuff for your pets. Cat and dog dishes, collars and leashes, and toys. Both Mickey & Friends and Pooh.

I was just looking at my dog's grungy collar, and thinking she needs a new one - I'm going to Target - thanks for the tip!:D

There's nice Mickey picture frames at Target. Haven't seen those in TDS for a long time. I also picked up some adorable baby stuff -- Pooh and Tinkerbell -- for a friend's baby shower, at Wal-Mart.

There's no way I'd drive 90 miles to the nearest TDS right now. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if they closed and expanded their selections in Target and Wal-Mart -- I've been luckier finding what Disney stuff I need in those two stores than in TDS recently.

planogirl....thanks for the Target tip. I've been there quite a bit recently (though admittedly..with kids...quick get what I need and get out situations...looking for stuff like trash cans and an ironing board) and didn't notice anything Disney, but I am trying to work out a plan for a Disney bathroom right now! I'll head out tomorrow alone!

yeah, Disney sells cheap crap now.....but I refuse to just accept that as a given!

Be sure and check out basically the whole store. Michael Graves has some Disney stuff too now and I know that there have been some things in the bathroom and kitchen sections. I don't know if they still have anything there now but you never know with Target. Good luck with that bathroom, it sounds like fun!

I know what you mean about the cheap crap. Remember the wonderful collectibles and kitchen things and so on that the Disney Store used to have? :(

I used to love shopping in the Disney Store when they had a variety of books, cds, collectibles and unusual items. I don't have kids so the plush and the princess stuff is useless to me. I think they need a lot more of the incentive merchandise you see at WDW such as stationary, desk accessories, keychains, pens, scrapbooking supplies, pins, etc...Items that can be bought as a little treat say for under $10.00. I also would like to see more adult clothing with subtle character references. I used to go in there to treat myself once in awhile. There is nothing I want to buy anymore :(

We are remodeling a lower half bath -- The new theme -- Toy Story!:bounce:
I have some lithos, water globes, toys  , pins ... a lot more stuff than could ever fit in that small bathroom! :jester:
I don't know if they still have them -- but check out disneystore.com. I bought Woody and Jessie towels for under $10 a set. ($7 or $8) They are large and very nice. (appliqued)

Also check out Home Depot for Mickey bath fixtures!:)

Most of the Mickey frames I have I either bought at WDW or Target!
I have bookends, clock, vase, etc that I got from Target too.

I am going to WDW in December and want to wait till August or so to get my AP and was wondering if I should worry about the Disney stores closing anytime soon, in the next three months or so. If this does happen, where can I get an AP at since I live in Illinois.

Thanks,

:( Adult clothing, sericells, clocks, watches, tea kettles, books, especially the birnbaum books, are the things we bought at TDS. Without that type of merchandise, we don't bother any more. :( It's sad, we really loved the disney stores. Average spending per visit was around $150 to $200. As I said. it's sad. :(

I was planning on buying pins & lanyards for my 3 kids for their Easter baskets this year for our upcoming trip. Dis Store didn't sell them:( I ended up spending my money on other stuff at another store instead.

I'm currently a cast member at TDS and wish that TPTB would listen to all of the complaints on this board! It's so frustrating for us as cast members; we loved the collectibles, the adult clothes, the time b4 our store looked like a glorified KB, I could go on and on. It doesn't surprise me when I hear these complaints and the rumors..... they had such a good thing going with TDS until they started changing the mold; why fix something that isn't broken? If the adult clothes weren't as profitable, then reduce the amount of stuff we carry, but eliminating the department was a huge mistake! Same goes for frames, kitchen stuff, etc. I agree with what has been said; Target has good Disney stuff; so does K-mart; the clothes are just as cute and a heck of a lot less expensive!

But what I was actually replying to was yes, we still have the Birnbaum books...... thanks for letting me vent!

At the risk of sounding like "Pollyanna" what about the atmosphere, the magic, and the wonderful people that work in the stores? Wouldn't ya'll miss that? I know that no matter where I am going in the mall I can stop into the Disney Store and the people there make me feel so good. They remember me and treat me like I have been missed. I do have to agree tho that there is not much that interests me as far as merchandise goes BUT isn't that fixable?
Thanks to the cast member (is that what you are?) that replied about the Birnbaum's. I thought I saw it there.

:earsgirl:

Yes, I would miss the store and everything that goes with it....you don't sound like a Pollyanna either! I do think the current problems are fixable, but I don't think TPTB are listening, which is most unfortunate. But I can tell you that no matter what happens to the store or me, I will ALWAYS love the Disney ideals and original philosophies!

Sharon;)

Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems like the stuff they are selling in the DS's now is the stuff that isn't selling in DTD Marketplace.

I'd rather they chart what is selling down there and fill the DS's with a good sampling of those products.

I'm still bummed they closed the Natick, MA Disney Store, with the Gallery attached to it. From what I've heard they're moving the store to the mall next door .... I wish they'd continue to carry more adult clothing - even socks or underwear would be better than all the plush. Here's to hoping.

:( I realize that the birnbaum books are still available, but I'm not going to travell all the way to a disney store { nearest one, 65miles away} just to buy a book. I get them from waldenbooks, from which we receive a discount, and it's only 10 miles away. Sorry. the disney stores will have to do better then just the books.:( We really miss the "old" disney stores! :(

Unfortunately, complaining on these boards didn't do much in the past, and probably won't do much now. :(

This news is very distressing to some people - those of us who work there!
