I work at Weetabix, at the moment we work a three shift patter which goes like this

morning shift 0700 - 1500 mon - thursday 0700 - 1720 friday
night shift 2200 - 0700 sunday 2300 - 0700 monday - thursday
afternoon shift 1500 - 2300 monday - thursday.

There is now talk of my plant and maybe another being turnedinto continental shifts probably 4 on 4 off with 2 mornings and 2 nights. Has anyone had any experience of this sort of shift pattern?

I work a 3 shift pattern 2 morning, 2 afternoons 2 nightshifts and four days off! Some other employees work 2 days and 2 nights and 4 days off and they find it great! Will you have to work longer days?

Wish I could help, but I don't really understand it at all!

9 to 5 is about as much as I know. More like 9 to 3 as the only job I have ever had was working as a teaching assistant for work experience... :P

My DH worked 2 days 2 nights 4 off. I loved it but he wasn't keen as they were 12 hour shifts which can be long.

He only had to put 4 days hols and he got 12 off (4 off 4 hols 4 off) so in that way it was excellent.

he works 8.30-5 now monday to Friday but he has said if had to work shifts again he would choose the above rather that a week of days, a week of afters then nights etc etc

Good luck

I had to do a similar pattern last december when our offices were destroyed by an explosion and we had to relocate. I did 4 12 hour shifts, either days or nights and then 4 days off! I hated it but then i dont like working nights, so if your ok with that part then it should be ok!

It was said that we would definatly be on a 12 hour contintnal shift pattern by the end of next year. Now they are saying how about trying it in a couple of plants just for a year. I think the number crunchers are starting to get second thoughts about it.

I just thought I would update everyon. We now have 2 plants working continental shifts with the following 12 hour shifts

2 days on
2 days off
3 days on
2 day off
2 days on
3 days off

either night shift or day shift. After worrying about the change and how I would manage it, it turns out I LOVE IT. So thanks for all the replies and so much for the worry.

That shift pattern seems quite good. Glad it's all worked out ok!:)

:cool1: that shift pattern sounds ok :cool1: ;) , hope it all works out long term.:thumbsup2
