Has anyone used this service and if so any problems? I am planning on carryon luggage only, not checked baggage.

I've used it several times - it's SOOOO easy. It's great because you can change your seat assignments right on line and your print your boarding pass from home so there is no wait at the airport - you go straight to your gate. I highly recommend it.

We also have done this about 6x already. It is especially good for carry-ons only. You can print your boarding passes 30 hrs ahead with Continental.

As long as no kids are with you ........you can even pick exit rows that have more leg room.

You will be able to walk right to the Security check points with your boarding pass you printed from home. We also do this on the way home by going to a Business center or Kinko's to print the boarding passes for our return flight. I always do it at the 30th hour and have gotten exit rows every time.

Can someone give me more info on what the web check-in is? I'm flying Continental for the 1st time next month. I have e-Tickets if that makes any difference. I will have checked baggage and kids flying with us also.

Thanks!!

Web check in is being able to check-in for your flight from home 30 hours before your flight and pick your seats also. It is easier if you have carry-ons only.........but you can also do it with checked luggage. Here is a brief how to............if you have an e-ticket and luggage to check.

1.Go to the Continental web site up to 30 hours before your flight
2. click on flight check in
3.you have to put in 1 of the follwing 3 to proceed
a.confirmation number
b.e-ticket number
c.One Pass number
4.just follow directions and pick your seats. You have to do each passenger traveling with you separate.
5. After you pick your seat and it is showing your boarding pass..........print it
6. Do the same for the rest of your family(children can not sit in exit rows)
7.Bring your ID and boarding pass to airport
8.If you are checking luggage.........stop at Skycaps and let him check your luggage(quicker and only costs a few $$ for tip)
9. Proceed to Security check point with your Boarding passes you printed from home.

;)

Thanks so much, Nick! I need precise instructions like that ! ;)

I see you're a fellow Ohioan. I'm flying out of Cleveland and hoping the weather will cooperate. I heard it was snowing there this morning!

Thanks again,
Nicole

Your welcome Nicloe

We always fly out of Cleveland when using Continental or Pittburgh when we use US AIR. We only use those 2 airlines for FF miles. We are 60 miles from each. Once you use web check in.......you won't do it any other way.

Great to hear how easy it is. It just seemed too good to be true.

I do have another question though... I am flying from Cleveland to Connecticut through Newark. Do you get boarding passes for each leg?

This will be great!

We only have done this with direct non-stop flights(the only way we fly ;) ) I would call Continental direct and ask them this question before you do it.(800-525-0280)

We are flying Continental for the first time in December. We have already been assigned seats. Is this going to change? Do we have to pick seats again? This makes me nervous since we're traveling with 2 year old triplets and a 6 year old. We can't be split up. We also have 1 stop each way.

Thanks for any help,
Kerianne

If you use online checkin you can print out both boarding passes of a connecting itinerary. I fly CO every week and am very familiar with the process.

Also you can check your luggage at the eticket check in line and skip paying the skycap. The eticket machine line inside is generally pretty short. Don't go stand in the regular line. There are usually a bank of eticket check in machines at every ticket counter. One window will be marked emachine luggage check in line. Go directly their with your preprinted boarding passes and hand them your luggage and you are on your merry way. Personally I don't trust sky caps.

If you don't use web check in for your boarding passes, you will have the same seats you were assigned. Web check in is for printing your boarding passes at home(best advantage-carry on only) and picking exit row seats 30 hours before your flight.

Just take your e-ticket and ID and luggage to a kiosk or the regular check in line. Your seats will remain the same as was printed on your confirmation e-ticket.

Most of the posters that inquired are using Cleveland Hopkins Airport, and that is a hub for Continental. So it is much easier and quicker to use the skycaps for this particular airport, if you already have your boarding passes printed from home.

Also a lot of people book there reservations separately to get 1000 bonus FF miles........so in that case they both have to be done individually to get your boarding passes at home.

I am very familiar with the CLE airport. The corporate offices of my company are there and in fact I am flying home from CLE this evening. The other reason I suggest going inside to the eticket checkin line which generally has minimal wait is also to avoid the cold. I personally don't want to wait outside for the skycap to check my luggage knowing that I can walk right up to the special baggage check emachine line with no wait that is inside the heated terminal. feel free to wait out in the cold, i'll be inside. :)
I fly through every major hub for Continental (IAH, CLE, EWR) atleast once month and can tell you about most other major city airports as well. I fly approximately 100,000 miles annually on Continetal and consider myself pretty much an expert on the subject.

The posters were talking about now (early Oct) not January

.
Also I never check luggage anyway, carry-ons only...........I go right to security while you are waiting in a line checking yours.::yes::

I try to do carry on only as well but unfortunately I can't convince my family to do so as well so I always scope out what I need to do with my family when travelling with them.

Re: the weather

It is COLD here in CLE even though it is October. Anything below 50 degrees is cold for us southerners :D

If I were traveling with 3 young children I would definitely use the Skycap for my luggage. All they have to do then is go to the gate. Heck even with a 12 and 7 year old I'd use a Skycap. Course that could be cause I don't mind paying for my conveniences.
