Ah , just got a phone call from the travel agent, informing me that our outbound flight to Orlando has been cancelled

So I`d advise anyone flying with continental to check their flight details.

Looks like we`ll have to go a day earlier so its not the end of the world, having said that I did have to sedate my better half , cause she went into full blown panic mode , shes in the corner now muttering ADRs ADRs over and over again.

shes in the corner now muttering ADRs ADRs over and over again.

:lmao: Well it looks like she was the one who did the ADRs. Trust me, if you had, you would be in a similar state right now. Is there availability the day before? How do they do that? Do they just put you on the other flight or are there price differences involved?

My stomach started doing turns when I read your post (I have organised the in-laws holiday and I dont think I could have told them if there had been a issue with the flight!!)

I have just checked their booking online for Aug and touch wood there flight is still the same - appart from that they have taken there requested seats away! :confused3 I am just leaving that for them to organise at check in tho.

Good luck with rearranging your ADR, I cant imagine how annoying it must all be!

I'm sure our Virgin flights were code share with Continental (as well as Singapore.)

Is it a direct flight or a stopover?

See if you can get on the Virgin one if there's availability, as they are airline partners - unless it is the Virgin one that been cancelled.

**EDIT** Just realised you're in Belfast, our flights were from Manchester.

Thanks a bazillion - you have worried me now! When are you flying? Where from? What time? That is when were you supposed to be flying, not when is your new flight.
Glad it has worked out for you though!

Sorry I couldn't reply earlier , better halfyl had taken to rocking back and forward sobbing. All I could make our was cindies, cindies, our last night dinner at cindies.
Took me a while to calm her down and eventually she stopped.

Lol

Anyway, we were meant to be flying from Belfast ,on the 20th of October and changing planes in Newark . Had a chat with the travel agent and hopefully we can fly the day before and stay an extra night at old key west.
She said we could fly a day later if we fancied it but there's no way I'm cutting my holiday short even by one day. She has to ring me back tomorow with the price for an extra night but I can't. see it being too much.

Hopefully we will get it all sorted without the need for a nervous breakdown .

That sounds hopeful. Especially the extra night. :cloud9: So you would get an extra day then? Hopefully that will make your better half feel better.

Any major airline is very well equipt for handling this. CO has been tweaking their schedules to deal with loads and changing things now they're in the process of merging with UA. This can cause some changes and cancellations (allthough a very small % of total flights), especially when you've booked flights at 10/11 months out. Most of the times they won't go "let's have fun and scr*w everything up". They'll work with the customer where possible. Sometimes the system will automatically book you on another available flight. Might mean other times, other connecting-hub, you name it. Doesn't that fit your likings, plans or anything? Simply call the airline, DO NOT CLICK "ACCEPT SCHEDULECHANGE" ON YOUR RESSIE ONLINE! and the folks at the CO callcenter will happily book you onto a flight that fits your plans best. Price differences will not be taken into account, unless you're changing from economy to business first etc. When staying in the same class, CO will not charge a changing fee, will not charge the difference if the other flight is more expensive, but also will not credit if flight becomes cheaper.

They even go as far as offering this option free of charge -remember; normally you would have to pay to be chance flights-, with a schedule change that is relatively very little. Some airlines will stick to their rules "no free changes unless schedule change resulted in at least a 2 hour difference" with no exceptions. CO not so, in my experience. I've had them happily chance our ressie to a much more expensive flight because our scheduled one changed it's arrival time at EWR with about 14 minutes.

As a full codeshare, they can and will -if asked- rebook on a UA-flight, allthough most of the time with a CO-flightnumber. Same goes for LH. Don't know about VS as I'm not UK-based. (VS does fly from AMS, but does not come up as an option, same as with UA before the closer coöp before the merger was announced)

Same goes for seating assignment. About a month, perhaps 2 ago, CO has started a major rehab on seatingnumbers. They've done this to allign seatnumbers better for internal flights, so if a last minute equipment switch is needed, folks will still basically have their same seating number, location etc. Because of these changes, you might find some rownumbers "missing" on for instance a 764. The rows will jump from 4 (last one in BF) to 10 (first in economy).

During these changes, seatingassingments went kinda crazy. If left alone, most of those sorted themselves out in a couple of days, for some it took up to 14 days. However, folks that did chance themselves after seeing the first switchingaround will find their seatingassignment all nutsy by now as the system will have done a second switch trying to make things back to the way it was as much as possible. Nothing to worry about though, if you log into the ressie online now you can change seatingassignments yourself. Only thing folks wont be able to do is select seats that have been reserved for Elites when they don't have a status. In that case, they'ld have to wait until online check in.

Seriously, these things are very normal when booking any of the major aircarriers. All have schedule changes when they offer the option of booking 360 days out in advance. All have some cancellations when dealing with too low passengers loads. All deal with rescheduling in the process during and right after a merger.

For those folks having a near hart-attack; relax. This doesn't happen to a large % of routes, it'll be a certain route that is taken out and/or decided to have lesser flights per week. There has been a thread on the UK-board here recently about CO deciding to stop service to a UK airport, forgot which one. Might be worth having a look at.

These things can happen and CO (and many other airlines alike) will work with you to find an option that will fit your group. And as always; be in control yourself! Check your reservation like once a week on continental.com (or any airline you're flying with .com). IF there are any changes, CO will give you a warning when logging into the ressie. The changes will be in red letters, the rest in plane black. This way you can very easily see if a flight number is changed, the departure and/or arrival time, the aircraft or if there's been a cancelled flight and you've been rebooked. When you get closer to the actual flight date; check a bit more often perhaps. Most changes (especially the bigger ones) would occur anywhere from 9 to 3 months prior to travel. The closer you get to travelday, the smaller the chance of a cancellation. Within a month or closer it is very very rare.

This is one of the big downside of going through a travelagent, IMHO. No own control over the flight ressies. Hopefully you can fly in the day before? With control over the ressie, you would've allready known you're confirmed on the october 19th flight. For your info when dealing with the travelagent; there IS availability at this moment for departure on that day. Simply use continental.com and search for the 20th (it'll show you no options on the 20th, and all other options) and whatever your date is for going back.

Option one; CO95 connecting to CO792, this would get you into MCO at 18.44pm, but has a 2 hours 19 minutes connecting time. Is a bit close for EWR.
Option two; CO95 connecting to CO1791, this would get you into MCO at 21.08, with a 4 hour 25 minute connecting time. Other options would require you to overnight at EWR, not desirable.

PS: pricey airport to fly in from! :headache: Almost got a  when seeing the prices. Makes AMS a bit better to stomach I guess. ;)

Thanks for posting. Ours are all the same still so phew.

Another disadvantage for us Norn Irons!!!!

Hope you are happy with what you got sorted.

@goofylonglostsis, thank you , that is one of the most detailed replies I`v ever seen :thumbsup2 , your help is appreciated. And yes flying from Northern Ireland can indeed be an expensive business. In fact doing anything in Northern Ireland can be an expensive business.

@Howlogtillsummer glad to hear your flights are still ok. Hope all goes well for you.

Now back to my story , just had the travel agent on the phone and it is all sorted. We will fly out a day earlier , and stay for 15 days instead of 14. So result, an extra days holidays. As said above the flight prices didn`t change, but we have to pay another £100 for the extra nights accommodation. So all in all it could have been worse and hopefully fingers crossed thats the only drama we`ll have.

Now slightly Off Topic, only cause i don`t want to start another thread , we are on the free disney dining plan, do we now get 15 nights worth or will it be still 14 nights cause we only bought 14 day ultimate park tickets.

And do the ultimate tickets only start when we first enter a park or do the start when we get our key to the world.

That's what I thought too. I found it really interesting. :)

You should get 15 nights if your TA has simply extended your stay by one day. Therefore you should be getting 15 days of DDP. You may wish to just confirm this with your travel agent to ensure that it has been added but you only need a 5 day ticket (in the UK) to get dining for the length of your stay.

You're very welcome! I already heard a bit about life in NI not being the cheapest, but had no clue about airfares until I ran into your topic.

You should get 15 nights worth of free DDP. The amount of days on the ticket doesn't have any impact on the free dining, only the fact THAT you have the UK tickets booked within one package does. After that, the number of nights dictate the amount of credits on the DDP.

And do the ultimate tickets only start when we first enter a park or do the start when we get our key to the world.

When you enter a park for the first time. :)

Just something that popped up in my mind last night; you might want to have a look at the conditions you booked the package under and if need be the CoC of Continental for that 100 pounds extra you had to shell out for the extra night.

Not sure if it's just Dutch law or not, but in cases this happened with flights cancelled from AMS causing folks to have more costs (extra rent for lodging, car rental etc.) the airline not only rebooks folks for free onto another flight but also credits these extra costs -after seeing the bill for it, of course-. Most legislation surrounding airtravel and consumer rights tends to be a EU thing rather than a national thing. Packages sometimes are a different animal, but perhaps there might be an opening for that also. Definately can't hurt to check it out.

Thank you, will have a look at the terms and conditions to see where we stand. I'm happy enough with the outcome but obviously it theres awl way to get some money back ill give it a go.
Hopefully that's all the drama we are going to get, not sure if we could cope with much more.
I'm now back to counting diwn the days till we go, and thanks to all this my holiday is now a day closer.
