Contemporary wings are open.

I just returned from the world (a non-DVC stay) at several resorts and noticed that there were guests staying in both wings of the Contemporary. I thought I read on here that the North Wing was shut down for some sort of major refurbishment (possible DVC)? Both the north and south wings were occupied. THe north wing looks REALLY bad (needs a sprucing up) from a boat by the way ..

I have been saying for years that the wings look terrible-like disgusting old apartment buildings. I wish they would refurbish the outside of thos buildings as well as the inside-yuck.

When we were there (janaury 5-13), the wing on the right side of the CR (if you were looking at the front of the resort) seemed to be closed, & there was one of those wooden "we are refurbishing" fences around it.

Didn't take them too long to refurbish, because when we went by it in the boat, you could see some of the rooms which appeared to be stripped down and being redone.

DH & I were speculating that they might have been preparing the CR for the DVC, and maybe that was what was "coming soon" according to the billboard.

THey may have painted the outside of the South Wing when you were there. I was there until the 16th, and the South definitely looked alot better than the north from the outside. However, both wings were open with guests on the balconies, so not sure if/when the DVC thing will happen.

From what I have read on these boards, the north wing was never said to be closed, it simply has not been scheduled for a much-needed rehab along with the rest of the Contemporary.

We were at WLV from Jan. 8th - 14th and were over at the CR several times. The wing closest to the WL seemed to be having work being done in their rooms. We saw many work crews in these rooms.

My husband and I are thinking of buying DVC so we talked with Amy, a DVC rep about options and points. When we asked her about staying at other Disney resorts, she said you can stay at GF, Poly or Contemporary but at a higher point cost. She told us that the DVC staff is aware of the rumors of villas opening at the contemporary but they have no plans to go DVC in the contemporary.

The Billboard is to raise onsite awareness of DVC. There will be another morer detailed billboard, 3-D type replacing the one there, that is what is coming soon. It will not be used to annouce expansion.
