Contemporary to undergo construction; DVC coming?

I agree with Mr Finance Hat tjkraz, with one caveat. I think that there are enough folks with enough $$$ to make a small-sized VCR sell-out fairly quickly...

True. And let me better clarify my point.

Right now 200 pts gets you a week in a 1B at BCV / BWV / VWL during Adventure Season. If you were considering a CR purchase, which would you prefer:

200 pts / week for 1B Adventure @ $150 each = $30,000
300 pts / week for 1B Adventure @ $100 each = $30,000

Either way, you're making the same financial commitment and getting the same value from your points. BUT, existing members must use a larger share of their points to stay at the CR than at their own Home resort.

Lost in my really long reply was the idea that I don't see DVC charging $150 or $200 for CR points simply because they can. IMO, it would make more sense to maintain a steady inflationary increase in price, coupled with a higher point schedule for the resort as is appropriate for its location.

And really the owners at the resort should prefer it that way, too. Using the example above, wouldn't it be comforting to know that your 300 CR points get you several more days per year if you choose to stay at a "lesser" resort? It's really the same situation faced today by owners at later resorts who choose to stay at OKW--those who initially purchased enough points to stay a week at their Home should find that they have enough to stay 9-10 nights at OKW during the same season.

tjkraz,

Not to quibble over semantics, but I feel that the use of the word "lesser" is unfortunate.
The words; "Another", or perhaps "an Older" Resort, might not imply a projection of, or aire of elitism in those whom might find owning a monorail/walking access DVC resort to be desirable.

Otherwise I would say your assessment may well be how DVC would structure such a deal.

The word was chosen intentionally. Take it however you will. ;)

Kinda crazy to characterizing non-existent owners of a fictional resort, eh? :rotfl2:

I think it would be far more revealing as to your position if you expanded on your intent behind specifically choosing the term! ;)

Yes, and does that not speak volumes for all of us who while we could be having a "real life", choose to do so? :teeth:

Actually, there's nothing nefarious about it. The assumption is that most of us love our Home resort above and beyond the rest...making all other resort "lesser" to that which is Home.

It wasn't an attempt to characterize those who would be owners at arguably the most sought-after DVC location...just a nod to the possessiveness many exhibit toward their true Home resort.

Yeah, he could have said "sub-par", like the Daitch-meister did in another thread. :rolleyes1

Lesser:
"Smaller in amount, value, or importance, especially in a comparison between two things"

I still maintain that by use of the word "lesser" the statement implies a value more weighty than what proably exists in the minds of most DVC owners, which I believe is preference of Home resort.

You yourself, I believe, have said that you could/can/have enjoyed BWV. However, you prefer SSR. In my case I prefer BWV, while this is my preference I am currently staying at OKW, by choice. If I held OKW in my mind as a "lesser" resort over my home, I would not be here. I could- also stay at SSR, if I so choose, but that may not be my preference. It boils down to desires and preferences - as opposed to a conscious mental process that rationalizes between 'great' vs. 'stinky'.

By implication, the continuing inference of 'I Love A, Therefore B thru Z are undesireable' is in great part why there is and has been so much negativity on threads like this.

Owning DVC could be likened to cheese. While I may prefer cheddar, I can also be happy with swiss, edam, gouda or brie. Despite the fact that those may not be my #1 choice, I can still enjoy them as overall I like cheese.

I would prefer the Polyn - but the Polyn doesn't need the people - the Cont does.

Actually the Contemporary is sold out a lot. Between conventions, groups and families it is at 95-100% occupency often.

Two questions for those who have been DVC longer.... Is the first offering of a DVC always the best (read that cheapest) offering price wise? Are the first offerings made made to everyone, or do current members get the chance to buy before the general public? Yes, I am one of those who loves the CR!

Well, I haven't been a DVC owner long enough to comment on some of the resorts, but we bought into SSR in Fall 2003 - before it was open - and we paid a net of $79 per point. I don't think I've seen a better deal since then.

DVC generally gives current owner a better deal than they give non-owners on new property.

the earlier you buy the cheaper it will be.

the MS I talked to yesterday - were just told that DVC would be selling in Ca - they are selling SSR - not anything NEW. They are not currently building any DVC resorts in Ca.

with my guide - she will call me if anything is ever announced for the Cont - she knows I want it!!! I just hope to afford it!!!

I don't think they'd increase the price per point drastically, I think they would increase the points per night. Like there is a different schedule for BCV-VWL and OKW and SSR. I think Cont. would have the highest schedule.

I think the monorail was a extremely difficult to build in that area - that's why it's unlikely we will ever see the monorail extended. Despite the fact that there are easements all over the place and even some structure build in World Showcase, it would take a major investment to build.

.
Where in the World Showcase are there monorail structures? Have I been walking by something all these years never realizing that????? :confused3
