Contemporary the best bet?

We're planning our very first trip to DW.

Here's our plan.....3 days at MK, 2 days at Epcot, 1 day at Hollywood Studios. We're a family of 5. We're used to staying off-site at Disneyland, so we're not used to having to use transit to get around from park to park or to dinner. And we since we're traveling with 3 kids under 10, we really want getting around to be as stress-free as popular.

For our dates, Contemporary is only running about $1000 more than Art of Animation.

We'll have family staying at Fort Wilderness and taking the boat from the Marina to meet us on 3 of the days. They will also be bringing us some groceries so we can do breakfast in our room, so we'd like to have an in-room fridge.

For the most part we're planning on eating at the whichever park we are at for the day. Only guaranteed exceptions are Chef Mickey's (on our day of arrival when we aren't going into any parks) and Ohana's. Of course, that may change and we start to find more restaurants we want to try.

We've looked at all the resorts over and over and over again for months and we are 99% Contemporary is the way to go. So for you seasoned DW travelers would you agree?

We love CR. We have stayed there twice and would stay there again in a second. The location is worth the extra cost to us plus we really like the rooms

I would stick with the cr for sure. Btw, do you not wish to visit AK? 3 days at MK for those used to dl might be more than needed. Just a thought.

My family personally likes the Poly better than the CR but I do agree that a monorail resort is probably best for your plans. I would make sure and go to AK though :)

CR will be more convenient for your itinerary. But I think you need to ask yourself if that convience is worth $1000. For some people that's alot of money, for others it's not. Btw, small frigdes are now included at value resorts, so don't let that factor into your decision.

I wanted to comment on the fact that your first trip to WDW has 3 days at MK and no time at AK. AK is many people's favorite park, especially children. I wish you would give AK a chance. It's a wonderful place, full of things to do.

Thanks!

AK is still in the air. We may still be adding a day to the vacation, and we're questioning the need for 3 days at MK or even 2 at Epcot (we had 3 days at DL last summer and definitely could have used an extra day and since we've never been to Epcot, we're thinking it may us longer than a day to see everything we're interested in.) Good thing we don't have to decide til we get there!

But even if we change one of our days to AK, I still think the convenience to MK is worth the stay at CR. We even considered staying at AK, but the jump in price to get a room that fits 5 of us was way too steep.

Thanks for your input.

We've never stayed at the CR, but I think that would be the best choice for you, especially since you plan on spending alot of time at MK. Our favorite is the Poly and although that's on the monorail, the CR might be more convenient with the kids since you would have the walkway to MK ;).

CR is perfect! Definitely stick with it, especially with friends at FW who plan to boat over for visits. (If it weren't for that, I would also recommend the Poly, since we think the Poly is significantly more convenient to Epcot than CR).

I would also suggest NOT missing AK. It is one of the parks that makes WDW so special. We love it there, even if only for 1/2 or 3/4 of a day. EE is one of the best rides, plus the Kilimanjaro Safari, the treks, and the Lion King and Nemo shows...actually, just to walk around and bask in the theming of that park is really special. One of my family's favorite Disney activities is watching the vet procedures at Rafiki's Planet Watch! I agree that since you know DL, you probably don't need 3 days at MK. MK at WDW has fewer headliners than MK at DL because WDW has so many other parks.

I'd cut a day at MK, visit AK once, AND add an extra day for DTD or a water park, or a rest day somewhere in the middle. If you need to adjust and still get another MK fix, you have the option of adding a day to your ticket, as long as you do it before the ticket expires (check with hotel concierge for the exact rules). You're on the right track for 2 days at Epcot and 1 at DHS.

Have a great trip!

CR is our family favorite. Convenience and comfort, huge rooms, can't be beaten.
