Just returned from 8 days at Disney. We split our stay beginning with the Contemporary. We were upgraded to a lagoon view room #6110. It was nice and quiet with a small patio to sit out and watch the electric water parade. I liked the convenience of walking to Magic Kingdom.

We are staying at the Contemporary in November (because of the close of SOG). What are the rooms like for four adults in a room? Any special favorite spots in the resort? Any special events or things that happen at Contemporary that don't happen anywhere else? Thanks for any answers - I'm glad you liked it! I can't wait.

We stayed in the South Wing. The room has 2 queen beds and a daybed. Our 10 year old opted to sleep on the daybed. It is good for a kid or small adult. The decor is a little funky but i would definately stay there again because it is so spacious and it is convenient. We only stayed there 2 days and so i only know of character visits, electric water parade and a great meal at Chef Mickey's.

Just got back. Paid for a standard wing room and got the tower, bay view. Loved it and smiled for days!

Wow , a tower room! How did you find the noise from the monorail?

Since the CR has the largest rooms @WDW, it should be great for 4 adults. We loved it. SOG folks are in the North Garden Wing and it's very convenient to the Food Court, etc.... I think you'll like it.

I'm sorry to correct you, but SoG has the largest standard rooms on the Disney property. :-)

I have seen a lot of discussion about the rooms at the Contemporary. Especially the ones set aside for SOG patrons. A lot of people haven't been very happy with their rooms; too noisy, etc. I currently have a ressie for August of 2003 for 3 rooms, as a SOG customer. The other family traveling with us would prefer to stay off site in a rental home. Any thoughts? I feel this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Would never be able to afford 3 rooms in the Contemporary at rack rates. But they want the convenience of a rental car and W/D, full kitchen, etc. I'm afraid to push the question since I have seen so many unhappy customers.
Also, any chance that EE will return for next summer, do you think?

We went last November, originally booked at PO but when they closed we were upgraded to Contemporary. This was our first trip away without the cherubs in 13 years. We loved it! We had room 8111 and we had a great view of the water parade and it was very quiet. We had 2 queen beds and a pullout. Plenty of room and a nice big bathroom. Only thing I did not like was that the tub was like glass and I slipped and wrenched my back and got a nice bruise on my elbow. Got a bath mat and quick, lol! Have a great trip.

I vote for Tower Room at Contemporary - especially nice to see the fireworks and lagoon parade. Never heard the monorail and we were right at the elevator doors (first level up from station).
Very pleased with everything but going to try Polynesian in December for a change.

We stayed in the North Garden week last April during April vacation week, and didn't find it noisy at all. The convenience of the location was great! My kids (15, 12, and 10) loved the pools and the Food and Fun center. We loved it so much we are going back next July. I booked a tower room as this is a birthday trip and we decided to splurge!

Karyn,
We were right above Chef Mickey's and had no problem with noise. I found if you closed the two bathroom doors it was almost soundproof. The beds seem so far away from the door that very little noise penetrates that far. My 15 year old, who refused to have his picture taken with any character this time, got the biggest kick out of watching the antics of Goofy and Donald from outside our room. He would come in and tell us what Goofy did to Donald and what Donald was doing to Goofy. It was so funny. They were thrilled by the room. Unfortunately, it rained the last 4 nights we were there so only got use out of the balcony the first 4 nights, but it was wonderful to watch the light parade from there. If anyone has any questions, just ask.

Forgot to mention, I couldn't hear the monorail from my room, but I was facing it, I wasn't on top of it.

Sorry for the incorrect info on the room size @CR. I've never been to SOG and based my info on my official guide. Sorry.

You must have been down almost the same exact days we were there. We started off on 8/23-8/25 at the Contemporary, 8/25-8/30 Old Key West and finished up at the Wilderness Cabins 8/30-8/31. Those storms really put a damper on our evenings. We had a terrible flight home due to weather coming out of Florida. My son woke up Sunday morning with strep. I'm so glad it didn't happen at Disney. He is on the mend and we are busy planning our next trip.

Karyn,
We were there 8/23-9/1. Thank goodness we did all the major parks before all the rain started. Started with Epcot and an early dinner at le Cellier then headed to MK and ended with the fireworks at MK. Then the next day we did Typhoon, MGM, and Fantasmic dinner pkg. The third day we did Universal and the fourth we did MK for the day with dinner at the California Grill. The next day we did Blizzard Beach and ended with the other Universal Park and Hard Rock. That's when the rain came. We were in downpours heading to Hard Rock. The next few days was the off and on rain, thanfully most happened in late afternoon or early evening. We did get back to all the parks. We did the four rides at Animal Kingdom and was debating about doing the safari ride when it started pouring. I didn't want to do it as I had done it last time we were there, and didn't find it anything special. So we left. We also managed to fit in another day at Islands of Adventure before it downpoured again. The kids did fit in water mice before another downpour when I did laundry. The first time we drove to Fantasia golf course it was closed because of the threat of inclement weather so we put it off until Saturday evening. Of course it started raining when we started playing, but we finished the course then walked to the Beach Club and had dinner at Cape May. I'll tell you my hair had a disatrous week, but we still had lots of fun!

I heard a while back that the washers and dryers were extremely slow and inefficient. Has there been any improvement in the laundry facilities here or would it be a good idea to plan on using the laundry in the other wing or tower? Thanks!

We've stayed at in the CR tower several times and never had an issue with noise either from Monorail or Chef Mickey's. This in one of our favorite resorts and strongly recommend it!

As far as laundry goes, we used the South Wings machines. We found 2 loads cost $10. $2 for washing each, $2 for drying each, and another $2 for the heavier damp clothes.
