Stayed here a lot when I was little....but I could never figure out what the theme of that resort is supposed to be. Anyone know?

Is it just supposed to be "contemporary" or modern? I havent seen it lately but pictures of the outside still look very 70's/80's to me...

Have you seen the new pics? It's VERY contemporary and VERY cool looking! The sinks are not very functional, but still very contemporary.

As for the other designs, I don't know what the original one was, it was probably modern at the time which was contemporary back then. The last theme they had was "contemporary art" and you were suppose to feel like you were in a contemporary painting, this is what I was told when we asked the last time we stayed there before the new changes.

it is truly "contemporary" now that it's been rehabbed!

loved the colors last september when we stayed there!!!

(very soothing, professional, modern)

I always feel like I am in a space port... at least the retro vision of one. I can pretend that my ship is in dry dock and the monorail is taking me in for a little R&R (shore leave at WDW) while I wait for repairs.

I guess I have an active imagination but the Contemporary Resort's theming has always really done it for me! :thumbsup2

Back when the Contemporary first open and into the early 80s, it was decorated with a Southwestern flair. The murals in the Grand Concourse look like Native American children to me. I remember them selling Southwestern style art and decor in the gift shops and the was a really good restaurant called the Navajo Room back then where on of the gift shops is located.

Yes, The Pueblo Room. It was on the north side, though; Chef Mickey's absorbed that space.

Being Contemporary is by definition on m-w.com (happening, existing, living, or coming into being during the same period of time)

So over the years the contemp reort was meant to be the cutting edge of what is the trend in hot new design.

As some mentioned, in the early 70's, the space race was still a trend, simple 1 piece platics and bold colors.

The resort has followed that over the years.

in the 80's it followed the jetson's carton.

I definitely like the present look a lot better!
