I just got a rate for the Contemporary "standard view" for the end of Aug. for $180 (including tax). I think that's a pretty good deal, but have never stayed there and am not sure.

What is standard view? Is that a graden view? Can this be on the ground floor? What room do I request? I have no clue about this resort but wanted to try it. Please any hints, tips, pros, cons...post for me please! Sorry so many questions but I am soooo excited!

Thanks
~Emmy:)

We paid $178 plus tax for a standard view, garden wing room in September, 2000. That was a Magic Kingdom Club rate. So, yes, you did get a decent deal.

Standard view means your window view faces the parking lot. You can definitely get first floor, if that's what you want. Those are nice rooms at the CR since they have small patios with chairs to sit outside.

I've seen some people express unhappiness with the standard view at the CR, but to tell the truth, we really enjoyed it. Yeah, we overlooked the parking lot, but we saw the monorail come and go, the top spires of the Castle, the tops of the buildings at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian. Also, we could see the ferry boats going to/from the WL and Fort Wilderness. The view was all uniquely Disney sights, and we were very happy with it. (BTW, we took the third floor to get a better view.)

Emmy,
Could you tell me when you're checking in at the end of August, and did you use the Disney club code? I was told the only rooms available for when I'm going-Aug 24, is the tower for $250 a night. I called again and tried other dates, and was told the only thing available in wings would be Aug 18-Aug 21. Should I keep trying?
Thanks,
Linda

Linda,
This was an AP rate and we are going 8/25-8/31. Yes, I would keep trying! I got this on my first try but a lot of times I keep trying and finally get something.

I know that more than one person has stayed at the Contemp, so give me your input...Please:D

The Contemporary is my son's favorite resort - and so far we have only stayed in the wings. The rooms are huge and extremely comfortable. I would suggest that you get (if you can) as close to the tower as possible and 1st floor. The way the rooms breakdown is as follows (from the room number):

1st digit:
5 - South Wing, close to Tower
6 - South Wing, away from Tower
7 - North Wing, close to Tower
8 - North Wing, away from Tower

2nd digit: floor (1-3)

3rd digit: room number

We absolutely adored room 5111 when we were there. We could walk out from the patio to get to the pool (even though it was December, we still went swimming), and the ducks were fun to feed as well (they will come in the room if you leave the door open too long though).
With regards to the price, that is a very good price. Too bad it's not like last August - we were able to get $139 ($154 after tax) per night then. But $180 (with tax) is still a very good deal.

Enjoy your trip.

We had a garden view that was upgraded to a water view, and we were in 6317 and loved it.

The 1st floor rooms are really nice, as they have the patios that the upper floor lack. Unfortunately the better standard room views are in the North Wing, and that is now being used by SoG while they are refurbishing. If you have a standard room in the South wing, it will also be of the parking lot. , or another wall of the building. If it is the parking lot, you will be able to see the monorail, and maybe some of the Poly. If you can get a discount on the garden view, it is worth it! Just my opinion!
