Contemporary Resort Ceiling Collapse

We got to sit upfront on the resort monorail from the MK to the Polynesian last month. Our departure from the Contemporary was delayed because part of the ceiling had collapsed onto the monorail beam. Water was flowing down the wall by the GCC exit.

Anybody know more about this incident? I think there was a concern that the monorail itself might suffer damage if it was hit by ceiling debris. Do the monorail cars have a fiberglass skin?

It's a honeycomb based fiberglass skin... and I doubt the Monorail itself would suffer any damage, other than getting dirty. However, because of the water, and the electricity, I imagine power was cut to the station, preventing the train from moving.

As for the ceiling, that's no surprise, it's happened before. Last time was like Niagra Falls... lol

Hi C&D Express!

Thanks for the details! Niagara Falls (LOL!), how cool would it be to have the monorail pass through a water curtain!

p.s I found myself speeding on World Drive (again!) last trip, but I did not pass any busses this time.

There was a high speed accident just the other day... one car involved, no one hurt I beleive. The driver spun out of control, launched the vehicle in the air somehow, and landed backwards into the tops of some palm trees. The car was suspended 5-6ft in the air in these trees. I wish I got a picture.

We saw an accident that really tore up some landscaping and knocked down a tree on a center island. The next day it was completely repaired like it never happened.;) We all got a kick out of it.

C & D Express,

I wasn't going THAT fast! (Was it a bronze Bonneville with florida plates or a dark green Odyssey with Connecticut plates?;) )

Actually, I never reached speeds faster than Test Track until we were back out on I-4 headed towards Tampa.

Thanks for the info. Keep up the good work!
