Contemporary Resort Booked 2nd Week of April 2008

I've been contemplating a Magical Gathering with my extended family (12 people total) and definitely wanted to stay at the Contemporary because of its proximity to MK and its monorail access (after a busy day, its nice to simply get off at the first stop). I've tried pricing the hotel stay (4/7 - 4/12) with no luck. It seems they have no availability. Can someone enlighten me? Why is the resort booked solid (is it truly a "Wonderful Week at Disney)? Also, could you suggest a different resort with similar benefits?

I'd call CRO just to be sure its sold out for your dates. Often the web site will show no availability but CRO will have rooms available. Seems like alot of folks are having difficulity getting ressies for the CR for 2008. I wonder if they've taken some of the rooms out of inventory becasue of the construction? Also the north wing has been demolished which takes at least 300 rooms out of the Contemporary's inventory.

That is also the week that the state of GA is out for Spring Break, don't know if that would affect it that much but I know we generally spend at least part of the week down there.

When dealing with the CR, don't discount a convention. My DH has one the week before you get there at the CR. They do get quite a bit of convention traffic. I've stayed there when they've had beauty pagaents, Doctors, Lawyers, Pepperidge Farm Salesmen, etc.

If your heart is still set on CR, keep checking. Conventions block out huge amounts of rooms and then release them when registration is closed. DH's program for his convention isn't even released until December or January. I think registration closes in February and the rooms are released then.

My guess is that there are no rooms due to a convention that would be taking place. I can't see them taking other rooms out of inventory due to the loss of rooms in the North Garden Wing, it does not make sense.

If you want to stay at another Monorail Resort which also happen to be Deluxe Resorts, then you're choices would be the Polynesian or the Grand Floridian.

You could also try the Wilderness Lodge as it is almost as convenient as the monorail resorts but tend to be a little less expensive.

Your trying for one of the busiest times of the year - It's Spring Break 'Season' as well as Easter. Enjoy the crowds and long line waits.

Yes, you are going at a busy time of year, but Disney has been so popular that every week seems like the busy time of year!

Anyway, you can still have a wonderful time at Disney World. One of the sponsors of the boards is Tour Guide Mike. I highly recommend him. For under $20, you get access to his sitewith tons of information about which park to go to on what day (which one will be less crowded) and tips on what rides to go to first and great places to watch the parades without having to be there hours in advance.

I used him for my last trip and he was right on. On the last day of our trip, while waiting for a parade, the family next to us complained about the crowds and the lines yet we had very little.

It is really something to check out. Have you looked into any other hotels yet?

Hi,

I just tried the WDW website for your travel dates and it seemed there were rooms available, I just don't know how many. To book multiple rooms, you have to call Grand Gatherings at 407-560-CHAT (which is what you may have been doing). Definitely keep trying.

Here are some options and the price for a standard room:
Contemporary $365
Poly $399
Grand Floridian $435
Those are the three monorail resorts. Another option is the Wilderness Lodge (a deluxe resort) with boats to the Magic Kingdom! It is a really nice resort and almost as convenient at the monorail resorts.
The Wilderness Lodge is $275 for a basic room

One final option is a Fort Wilderness cabin. Ft. Wilderness is the campground so we are talking so different that what you wanted. I just wanted to mention the option as lots of people do not know about the cabins.
Fort Wilderness is $299 for a cabin. The cabins are really unique. Basically, they have taken a mobile home and made it to look like a rustic cabin. It has one bedroom, a bath, a living area and a full kitchen. They sleep 6. Outside your cabin is a deck with a picnic table and grill. I have no idea if this will fit your family's idea for a vacation, but it could be really fun for a family gathering. There is LOTS to do at Fort Wilderness, too. It is a big place and not as convenient as the monorail resorts, but it is unique. It is camping with style- Disney style.
