We just got back and had a fabulous stay at the Contemporary.
Here are the pluses: We checked in at 1:00 p.m. and they had a room ready. They upgraded us from a parking lot view to a lake view. We had only asked for a non-smoking room but when we checked in we requested a couple of other things and the front desk accommodated them all such as a first floor room (so that a patio would be accessible) and closeness to the Magic Kingdom walkway. The front desk person assigned us room 7155 in the North Wing which was only about 5 or 6 rooms down the hall from the main door. This made parking easy also (we never had any problem finding a parking space and usually parked in spot 2 or 3 right outside the door). It made unloading and loading back up a snap. The hotel staff made an effort to keep everything looking nice and they were shampooing the hallway carpet while we were there. The check in experience was quick, friendly and no line.
The room was big with a sofa, big table, 2 beds, an easy chair, a big closet with room safe, a big bathroom with a separate toilet area which could be closed off so that 2 people could be in the bathroom at the same time. More details can be seen at my trip report "If Only The Beagle Could Come". We enjoyed the spaciousness of the room. The view was wonderful too. We could open up the sliding glass door and sit out on the patio and see a white sandy beach and part of the lake with the parasail boats, and to the left were the tennis courts. Also, the North Wing was extremely quiet and we didn't ever hear any other guests but it was cute hearing the steam whistle from the MK Railroad, or the boat horns pulling up to the Contemporary dock.
The walkway to Magic Kingdom was worth the price of the resort. It was a short walk from our room, past the guard gate,
crossing the street and down the walk to the main gate of Magic Kingdom. What especially came in handy was if you stayed until park closing - you wouldn't have to scramble for transportation to the hotel. The monorails came in handy on all of the rainy days and it made Epcot easily accessible too. We loved the different observation decks also, not just for the Magic Kingdom fireworks, but for sightseeing and taking pictures during the day.
There were only 2 slight negatives in my mind. The food court left much to be desired due to atmosphere and proximity to the arcade, and the swimming pool was okay, but not as nice as some of the other pools we've seen.
We had a great trip and we would definitely stay at the Contemporary again.
