I had booked the Contemporary Resort Bay Lake View using my Annual Passholder Rate. We always get the Magic Kingdom view when we stay there but since there was no discount available I decided that this time we would try the Bay Lake view since there was a discount for that. I mean how bad can it be to overlook the lake and see the Wilderness Losge off to the right? I was fully aware of the new building construction but I figured that would just be during the day anyway.
By the way they are also doing alot of landscaping work in the front and realigning the parking lot too. The CR is getting alot of TLC lately.
Anyway as we were checking in about 10:30 Sunday morning I remarked about this being our first time with a Bay Lake view and the CM said "no, you have a Magic Kingdom view". I assured him we had the other side but he said we had been given a free upgrade. Even though we had accepted the idea of the Bay Lake view and were actually looking forward to it we were thrilled with the news.
The CM then proceeded to mention our room was ready (at 10:30 Sunday morning? That seemed impossible!) and we were in for another surprise. I joked that maybe we were getting 12th floor concierge and he said "no, 14th floor!". Well we were so thrilled! We tend to be the type who spends alot of time on our balcony when we are down there, especially when we are at the Contemporary Resort, so this was quite a thrill for us. We were given Room 4915 which is the second room starting from the North (Magic Kingdom) end of the hotel on the MK side. The first room is a suite so if you are looking from the ground up the first three balconies are all actually part of that suite, we were the 4th balcony in.
So even though we didn't win a prize I just wanted to share our good fortune with everyone here. I know not everyone would have cared as much as we did about this upgrade since many people barely spend any time in their rooms while at WDW, but we were and still are so HAPPY about this.
By the way in my opinion the food and snacks would hardly be worth the extra money if we were paying full price, but that extra high-up view was something! (Just below the rooftop). The concierge staff was really nice and friendly too!
