So I've been reading that the CR is set to undergo a major rehab, but no dates have been announced. We are booked at the CR from 7/28/05 to 8/6/05. Should I keep the ressies or change to WL or Polynesian? My main reason for wanting to stay at the CR is the room sizes and proximity to MK...plus the cost is less than the Polynesian but with all the same perks more or less. We will have 2 small children with us and I also thought this resort would be lots of fun for them. I was so upset to hear about the rehab (although it is needed as far as many DISers are concerned) because I really want to stay at the CR but NOT during a renovation. Does anyone have ANY idea when this is slated to begin? Would they actually start it during the 50th Celebration? Should I keep the ressie and hope that they switch us like Disney has done in the past when, for example, Pop Century's opening was delayed so they moved folks to AKL (that happened to us).

Help! I really want the CR but don't want the hassles of dealing with a resort undergoing rehab. Thanks.

Well, currently the Contemporary Rehab is just a rumor, so you'll be okay. If it happens during your trip, and most rooms are full, then I'm sure Disney would transfer your reservation to another resort. Oh, you should know that Disney would NEVER begin a rehab in the peak seasons. Don't worry! We really liked the Contemporary! :wizard:

I read another thread yesterday on this topic. One poster called the CR directly and talked to a CM, who was unaware of any rehab. They then transferred her to Central Reservations because they always have that info. first. CRO also was unaware of a rehab.

MMMM, well, although the colors in the rooms don't bother me, I would make them a bit more soothing--- something that Minnie Mouse would approve of. I would construct balconies on all of the wing rooms. I would move the Concourse STeakhouse from out of the middle of the Concourse to a better, more private area. I would make the food court bigger and more convenient. I would reopen the kids club and make it accessible like the kids clubs on the Cruise Lines. I would make the interior colors of the lobby more lively... like Mickey... right now it reminds me of an airport lobby. I would use more references to and decorations that feature Mickey. To me, this should be Mickey's resort and THE place to be for families instead of conferences, since it is the most convenient to the MK... tie it in with the MK. I would put in a zero entry pool, and move the hottubs to a more secluded and romantic place. I would redesign the bottom of the round pool with a Mickey Icon.

I am sure I will think of more, but I think I have spent the budget already!

OPPS, misread the intent of the question

I would keep the reservation and keep your eyes and ears open for any further word of renovation. If it comes up, I am sure they could transfer you to another comparable resort. We really liked CR, so if you can stay there, I think you will, too!

I was glad to hear that also..we're going next month. Funny how the rumours take on a life of their own....that's their nature i suppose. I'll see if there's any new info while i'm there :D

I would go real "George Jetson" with the design. Very modern and futuristic. Have some fun. I would get the Concourse Steakhouse out of the Concourse (which is what the rumor already is) and expand Chef Mickeys. I would also move the Food and Fun Center up to the north end of the Concourse (which is wasted space with the stores there), though the fun center would have to be enclosed to keep the noise down. The pool would have to be redone completely with a rocketship design. AND THEY MUST PUT TABLES WITH UMBRELLAS AROuND IT (my biggest pet peeve with the current pool). We will see what really ends up happening. I think they need to look at what the original design was suppose to be and go from there. Jay

We made our second visit to the Contemp this past Oct (2004) and much work WAS underway on room re-habs (in the main tower) during that time. We were told rooms were being made over as DVC space. But -- fear not -- the work was not disruptive. They were doing it all during the day, so you'll be out enjoying the parks or, if you're at the hotel, you'll be at the pool! The Contemp is GREAT when you have young children because it really is just a 10 minute walk from MK -- we loved not having to wait for the monorail on the nights we stayed for fireworks at MK. I wouldn't change my plans, if I were you -- the Contemp really does pay off for young families!
