We are planning a trip to WDW with our granddaughters, aged 6 and 9, in June. Normally, we stay at POR Riverside, but DH wants to stay at the Contemporary this time, if we can get the discounts. Since we know absolutely nothing about this resort, can anyone tell us what room requests we should make in order to get a glimpse of the fireworks from our balcony? Is this possible or will we need to go to the observation deck to see them? We have tried to be at the Magic Kingdom for the fireworks in the past, but found the crowds a bit unbearable for us. Thanks for any and all suggestions. :)

Well, in order to have a MK view from your balcony, you will have to reserve a "Tower-Park/Bay" room, and request the park view (this is only a request, they cannot guarentee it).

Rooms in the wings do not have balconies. The first floor rooms do have patios, though. There are really no MK views in the wings, but you can see part of the fireworks from standard view rooms in the North Garden Wing (which is being used as a 'military wing' until the new Shades of Green opens in 2004).

I stayed at the Contemporary a couple months ago. We had a wonderful room on the 12th floor (Tower Club) with the Magic Kingdom view. It is truly an awesome view!

I certainly hope you are able to get a discount at CR, though I'm not too sure how available they may be, especially since SOG guests will be tranferred to the CR. Enjoy your trip wherever you may stay.

Thanks for the replies! I have my doubts too about the discounts, but there are great rates being offered through 6/22 for Florida residents, so I am going to take my best shot and keep my fingers crossed. If it doesn't happen, I'm sure we'll have a great time anyway. ;)

I just tried to get the brand new Florida Discount that just came out today at the Contemporary and was told NO availability. But my dates are 5-23 to 5-27 which is Memorial day weekend. I would advise you to call early and call often to try to get a discount at the Contemporary. Seems they are filling up both CBR and CR with SOG people. I couldnt get CBR either and had to reserve at POR :(
