Contemporary or ASMO

If given the choice and for about the same price where would you choose to stay? (What a silly question huh!) Most people are going to say Contemporary, but I want to know what makes the Contemporary so great. What are the positives and negatives of the resort?

I've stayed in both and the Contemporary is the winner in my books. It is so convenient to the MK with the monorail right there. The bus service was great and we enjoyed the boat over to the Wilderness Lodge. The rooms are large enough so that you don't feel like you are sleeping in a shoebox.

We liked the AS resorts, but the rooms are soooooo much smaller and I like having inside hallways also. The only thing that AS resorts have better than the Contemporary is the food court.

This is definately not a knock on the All Stars, but there is not much comparison. The access to the monorail alone is worth it, as well as the room size (440 square feet to 215 - twice as large), walkway to MK, boat ride to FW/WL.

can i just ask the question - how are they about the same price?
lowest all star is $49 and Contemp is over $100?? do you have a special code or am i missing something? i would love to know or is this just a hypothetical question ? thanks Michelle

You're joking right! The rooms at the Contemp. are huge, you can walk to MK and take monorail to Epcot. If you can truly get them at the same price you would be crazy not to take the Contemp., the time saved not using the bus transportation alone would be worth it.

We are eligible to stay at the Shades of Green Resort for the military personnel. Since they are renovating the resort they are sending everyone to the Contemporary for the price we would pay for Shades of Green. The price is only about $15-20 more than what it would cost for ASMO which is where we were going to stay. If I can get the dates I want I am going to stay at the Contemporary because I don't think I would actually ever pay to stay there.

:) Oh i get it now.. I would choose the Contemp!!! Michelle

contemporary for sure...
they'll probably put you in the wings but no matter....
definitely much better than the all stars.....(we've stayed at both)...and there is a tiny little fast food place there (with frozen cokes....all my kids are interested in....we can't get them overseas).....
you're so lucky to have the shades of green rates...
i keep trying to convince my father in law to come with us...
but he somehow has managed to not become as disney crazy as we are.....so no shades of green for us....
i'm glad to hear they're renovating though, maybe we'll succeed in convincing him yet.....

On one of our trips, we booked our room for one night less than we wanted to stay. We got LOS tickets, so we thought we would either go get another room in Orlando after the last day, or they would let us add another day at our hotel for a reduced cost (PO-FQ). Well, it was the time of the marathon, and the runners booked up all of the All-Stars and moderates, and we just couldn't stand to leave Disney property. I got a room at the Contemporary. I had never wanted to stay there, but it was a room, and it was just one night.

I loved that hotel. I'd like to stay there again in the future. I loved being able to walk to the MK, being able to hop the monorail to the other resorts, and the huge colorful rooms. I'll admit that there isn't much of a theme there, but it's still so much better than a normal hotel. I'd strongly recommend it.
