Contemporary DVC on Moms Panel

Like I said, never heard this from cast members, but I saw this myself and the proposed monorail line would have added over 4 more miles of track.
Actually, I did hear about this one from a CM - specifically a monorail driver. It was one of the projects that was put on indefinite hold post-9/11. At the time, he said the powers-that-be were pretty close to giving the go ahead to extend the monorail to MGM first with a chance of AK if that went well.

In any event, unless I hear something from an official Disney press release, I take it with a grain of salt. Until it's official (and sometimes even completed), nothing is a guarantee.

They may be lovely people, however, multiple times I have checked things out on that site and found incorrect information. The Mom who wrote about the Contemporary DVC was also the one who wrote that you can rent points from DVC members and advised them to rent from Daddio (only she used his website instead). This was at the height of the commercial renter fiasco last summer (or was it the summer before). She's not a DVC member and really should defer the DVC questions to one of the Moms who is a DVC member since there are a couple of them.

I haven't been to that site recently, just looked up the post about the Contemporary DVC to see which Mom posted it. All I know is that everytime I checked that site out, I found incorrect information. Just one reason not to visit it.

When a Disney novice goes to this site for information about their upcoming WDW trip, they should always get correct information. That's why they need someone to check the "facts" they post there.

WOW!!! Your idea of "all the time" is...2 QUESTIONS. 2 questions out of over 7 THOUSAND. That is a failure rate of .029%...or a success rate of 99.971%. What do you suppose would happen if I asked you over 7 thousand questions? Do you suppose you would get a couple wrong here and there?

Under your logic - "Just one reason not to visit it." - the absurd comments I have read out here in the last year should be enough for me and EVERYONE ELSE to run away and never use this site again.

And my final point to you (and then I will leave in peace) is about the "renting of points", and how you are 100% WRONG yourself. I have personally done it several times before becoming a member. It wasn't until recently that the members I went to had to stop because they could get kicked out if they are caught doing it. Since, as you state, this Mom is not a DVC member and didn't rent points all the time, there was really no way for her to know that her advice was faulty. So by your standard, I and everyone else out here need to completely ignore all of your posts and advice as being "wrong all the time" because you were not entirely accurate on this one topic.

I've found them to be as accurate as we are here or the rumors over on mouseplanet are or most of the guidebooks or anything else....which is to say that they don't have any more inside information than anyone here does - much of what they post is opinion (and occationally I hold different opinions). They are not an official source of non-publically released information - if you want an opinion on if your kid will be scared by the Sci Fi Dine In, or want to know what 180+10 means or want to know which resorts can sleep your family of three kids all over three, they are very good.

I think the point here is that so many times that rumor gets reported as fact. The new facility is supposed to be a DVC resort but Disney has not made any official announcement about it. Anything reported right now is an educated guess. Sorry this topic seems to have put a bee in your bonnet.

Anyone else think TrippAve is a 'Mom' on the panel? Just joined, and only 2 posts - strongly defending the Moms.

:wizard: BINGO!

I was just surprised that Disney has such a problem with so much of the advice that is posted here on the DIS that they decided to start their own message board type forum and these people give the same unofficial, often frowned-upon-by-Disney advice!:confused3

I'm sorry, but if I did not know any better than to ask a Mom, how am I supposed to know that what they tell me is not "official" info? No disrespect to the Moms, their audience is going to be made up mostly of first timers. I just think Disney should have done better.

I'm curious why some folks believe the sales of BLT will get pushed back. If Disney is spending the money to build the structure and its standing there ready for sale why wouldn't they start selling it? :confused3 They've already invested the money to build it, or at least the physical structure. I would think they would like to start recouping the money through the sales of the units as soon as possible.

It may just be my opinion, but the Disney Moms Panel needs to stick with what they know rather than what they think they know. DVC questions should not be answered by someone other than a DVC member and refer the question to the DVC website rather than giving a totally off the wall answer.

The delay is just to try to maximize their profits.

It could have something to do with schedules and closing the FY. IOW: It could be Finance driven.

I would think that maybe they do not want to disrupt sales at AKV and or SSR. I could be completely wrong, but that would be my guess.

SSR has already sold out. Rumors from another site indicate they are waiting for their fiscal year to end because they already beat their budgets and would like to continue to see an increase in sales from year to year. Releasing BLT now could spoil increasing sales for their next fiscal year. Also, AKV sales are going strong. Called my guide a couple of days ago while at WDW and was going to leave a voice mail. He answered the phone at 7pm when he normally gets off at 5. I called later and did leave a voice mail, which took 2 days to return. He apologized for being so busy.

Building the shell of the building is a fairly large capital expense, but the capital they have put forth to date has been sunk. You don't make financing decisions on sunk costs. Finishing the building would mean much more capital outlay than they've already committed. If they haven't signed contracts (and they may not have) to finish the interior, they may choose to delay that capital outlay and continue to sell AKL (which they have plenty of units left) while they suspect sales will be slow. When the economy picks up, or VAKL is close to selling out, they start finishing rooms in BLT move those into inventory and sell those. Less unsold inventory on their books and less capital depreciation means better financial results - which makes stockholders happy - which means executives get their bonuses.

Also, in a down economy it is often the case that the government tries to encourage corporate investment - usually through accelerated depreciation schedules and/or reduced interest rates. Delaying capital investment now to see how the government is going to try and boost the economy makes good sense. Six months might save you millions in taxes and/or interest.

They may loose some immediate revenue from people anticipating BLT.

Where can I find a link to the Moms?

www.disneyworldmoms.com

The "Moms" only go through a short training period and try their best to accurately answer all questions. While a few answers may not be totally accurate, they try their best. I believe the goal of the site is to guide first timers though the perils of planning a vacation to Disney.

I personally would love to join the panel.

This is EXACTLY what I meant when I posted this. I was just surprised that Disney's message board had the info posted. I would think those type of "facts" could be checked first since it's on Disneys' own site. I just found it amusing. I wasn't taking it as a hard fact .:flower3:

Corporations have gotten huge into the idea of social networking - as a corporate marketing function. Both my husband and myself have been involved in these discussions at work. And lots of companies are doing it exactly like Disney is - encouraging conversations, but doing very little editing of the conversation. Disney has come to the realization (as have many companies) that sites like the DIS are invaluable - and if they can mold the conversation - not control it - controlling it takes too many resources - it can be a great marketing tool.

Disney has officially announced, some time back, that what they are building will be DVC. The structure is moving rapidly and the views will be great.

There have been no details as far as price, when it will be available for purchase, etc. yet.

Really. Really not true, there has been no official announcement.

I have to say this is the best site for accurate info, because if you are wrong it dosn't take very long to see you strung up and lynched like a horse thief. There is no mercy here for bad info. Thats what makes this such a great site. From what little I have seen on the Moms board, kind of struck me as a corperate answer. I kind of felt like it was a little sales pitchy.
Long Live The DIS.
