I vaguely remember reading something here about there being different levels of concierge service at the Contemporary - could someone please explain it to me? DH has got it in his head that he wants to stay there but I don't know much about it. Any help would be appreciated.

TIA!

Jill

We stay at the CR every year. Have been for at least 6+. We Love it there. This time we're staying at the GF RPC, for the first time & I miss the CR already. Anyway, there are 2 levels of concierge at the CR. There both in the tower building. The 1st one is on the 12th floor. All the rooms in the resort are all the same, so theres no diff. there, unless you get a suite. Your room key is also your elevator key. No one without that key (card) can get access to the 12th or 14th fl concierge. During early morning, I beleive 7-10 they put out coffee, diff. types of teas, bagels, butter, cream cheese, cruisants, jellies, donuts, juices, milk, cereal, oatmeal & a few other things, I think,, but I can't remember. The lounge really isn't a lounge. Its the area right in front of the elevators with several tables & chairs. You can either eat their or take you food to your room. During the afternoon around 2 -6(These times are approx) they serve coffee, teas, lemonade, rice krispies, pastries, cookies,& brownies, again probably more things, but age is taking my memory away. There is no evening offering on the 12th fl. The staff is out in the lounge til around 7pm to help you with whatever you need, they are helpful & friendly. The 14th floor concierge has the same as the 12th fl. but then around 5-7 they have cheese and crackers, beer, soda & wine on request, some hot & cold appertizers, then later on they serve baileys, ameretta, again wine, beer & soda on request. On both levels you get the daily newspaper, but even when I wasn't on concierge I got the paper. Concierge is really nice. The staff helps you with ps's, transportation, & anything else you may need help with. BUT, tell your husband, that once you do concierge you WILL NEVER want to go standard again. Its like a trap. We love it, its extra $$$$ but to us its well worth it. My kids get a kick out of using the "special" elevator key. They also deliver your packages in your room and you get turndown service everynight, which is real nice, they do light straightening up andturn your bed down & leave yummy thin mints on your pillow. I probably left some stuff out, but like I said, my memory is going........lol...Have loads of fun & I know you'll enjoy. We always do....We're trying the concierge at the GF this time, hope its just as nice....

dg39..thanks for the info! On one trip to the YC we were bumped up to concierge and we never went back! :) We have stayed concierge level at the YC, Polynesian, and just recently The Animal Kingdom Lodge and The Boardwalk Inn. For our next trip we want to stay somewhere different and DH has always wanted to stay at The Contemporary.

Hi JESW,

We've stayed 14th floor concierge a couple of times. I think the difference between the 12th and 14th floor is that the 14th floor has a full lounge and it continues the food service until 10:00pm. Also the concierge staff is on duty until 10:00pm. The lounge has 2 balconies with MK views. The guest rooms have a larger balcony on the 14th floor but nothing comes without a price - the room is slightly smaller inside than the 12th floor rooms. You get a fridge in your guest room and it's stocked daily with drinks. Um, I think the rest is the same as the 12th floor. I'm with you guys though - once you stay concierge you can never go back. On one of our trips we had the great fortune of receiving a free upgrade to the 14th floor and we've never been able to stay anywhere else. Consequently we have to scrimp and save a long time before we can afford our trips to Disney. Ah well, it's worth it to be treated like a Queen/King for a week. Enjoy and have fun.

I thought I was told when I made my ressie that the 12th floor also had a fridge. Was the CM mistaken?

elbo:confused:

We are staying on the 12th floor in October and were told that the fridge was no extra charge but had to be specifically requested. They added it as a note to our reservation.

Good Luck

to reference our personalities - my GF is a dentist and is very frugal as she grew up in a very poor environment compared to american standards...I am in finance and I am a spoiled brat that loves very nice elegant overly expensive stuff, 5 star restaurants, limos, etc...

we stayed 12th floor concierge June 8th to 15th

depending on who you are it is worth it or it is not - my utterly frugal girlfriend would never have stayed at a resort on the monorail let alone have done the concierge thing - she sings a different tune now - I firmly believe it greatly enhanced our experience...

for some though it is not worth it...all you really get that is additional is... 1) a private floor that other guests cannot access
2) a room key that has to be inserted into the
elevator slot or the elevator will not go to your
floor
3) a continental breakfast of fruits, donuts, an
assortment of danishes, coffee (really good
coffee I must say), water, various cereals, milk
apple juice, orange juice, cranberry juice...no
eggs and bacon or eggs benedict or like that
4) You get a turndown service that leaves
chocolates on your pillow
5) Two staff members to answer questions, get
priority seatings for you - up the charge limit on
your room keys of you want...to greet you with
a smile, to say nice things about your kids
cinderella outfit etc
6) A fridge if you ask for it
7) an itinerary planner before your arrival
8) a mixture of snacks, drinks, cookies etc when
you ramble back to the room between 2 to 4
9) New York times and wall street journal at the
concierge stand

per dollar for what you are paying above and beyond a normal room rate... it is really not that good of a deal... ON THE OTHER HAND!!!!.... I would not stay any other way!!!! and here is why...

1) even though the continental breakfast is no big deal... it is a huge time saver... you wake up...fumble down the hallway..and it is all right there waiting for you... no lines, no waits, no having to go to the restuarant and place an order and then wait again to get it and then wait again to pay for it... this little "continental breakfast" allows you to sleep in a bit, eat...and still get to the parks in advance of most anyone else... plus it will help make you and/or your companions feel special and pampered... as you will receive a pleasant greeting... but for me the time saving is a huge plus

2) Then you get back from a park kind of fried or wiped out...and first thing you get off the elevator and there is lemonade, tea, cookies, rice crispie treats... pretzels... cupcakes, etc etc... A very appreciated welcome "back home" - and VERY CONVENIENT no need to go downstairs to buy munchies, no need to go down to the vending machines... and again... I don't know what it is ...but they have great coffee. So here is another pleasant time saver. I downed a lot of that lemonade!!!

3) The turn down service to me is no big deal - I mean you are paying a fairly good premium for these little perks - but bottom line is ... my 7 year old girl thought it was so cool... what a surprise it was "Daddy daddy daddy...someone left chocolates on my pillow" .. I mean the way that made my little girl feel special was worth the premium all on its own...a little thing that would have meant nothing to me... meant the world to her...

4) And the room key - my little girl thought that was just the coolest thing... she would not let us use our room keys... she was the one to do it !!! very cute

5) the staff got me PS at a couple of places we did not already have, lowered my charge limit so my seven year old could not go hog wild with daddy's money (the room key works as a credit card up to $1500 then rolls over to a new $1500 IF you allow the charge status on your kids card)...and then increased the limit twice because daddy was going hog wild with daddy's money hahahahaha. I could have done this...but hey this is vacation...it was so much easier to ask Kathy to do it.

6) Because the rooms on concierge cost more and because no one else has access to the rooms - kids are not running all over the place carousing - its sounds snooty but it is a far nicer, quieter environment.

so in practical, material terms... i.e the extra material stuff you get for the amount of premium you are paying...if that is how you think or work then it isn't a good deal...I mean you pay a huge premium for a few donuts, some fruit, a newspaper, lemonades, and chocolate on your pillow...

But if you are like me - the convenience, the time saving, the quiet, the added atmosphere of being provided service and being made to feel special...and most importantly making your loved ones comfortable, relaxed, and made to feel special... then the concierge service is the only way to go.

My once incredibly frugal girlfriend loved it !!! and my little girl said... I want to stay here again !!! never mind the fact that she loved MK, MK etc...she loved the experience of staying at the contemporary and she felt all too special...

we will do it again... next time probably on the 14th floor concierge
