Has anyone stayed on the 14th floor concierge at the contemporary recently? I am planning to go in October, and I am trying to see how many meals I can save by eating in the concierge.

Do you remember roughly the times of the "meals" on the concierge floor, and what you had to eat. I can't seem to find any info on the 14th floor, just a little info about the 12th floor.

Thanks in advance :)

does any one know anything about the 14th floor? I looked at old posts, can't seem to find out any new info.

I also checked out Deb's web site, and their comments are older, no new comments in months. Can anyone help? thanks

piglet1234,

I agree there is not much info on the 14th floor concierge, however, from what I can gather I think its only available if you book a suite. Perhaps that is why there are is so little info? I know the suites at the CR are very expensive. Correct me if I am wrong. Anyway good luck in your qest for info.

You can get a regular room on the 14th floor!! There are mostly suites on 14, but still regular rooms. The bathrooms are larger than a regular room on the other floors, and the balconys are alot bigger than a standard room. I've heard it is wonderful!!! Was hoping to stay there myself this June but switched to BC only because of the kids..........hope you can get more info!! Soembody should know something!!! Good Luck!

Hi Piglet1234,

We stayed on the 14th floor in January. From what I can remember they serve a continental breakfast until 10:00am. It usually consisted of bagels, muffins, bread, fruit, donuts, pastries, cereal and milk. And there was coffee, decaf, tea, and juice. They also had a toaster there if you prefer your bread toasted. After that they put out light snacks which usually consisted of potato chips, popcorn, and cookies plus drinks. I can't remember what time they served that until. After that they had what they called afternoon tea but I honestly don't remember it being any different than the light snacks. Around 5:00pm or 6:00pm they put out hors' devors (did I spell that right). It was usually some type of meat, fish, or chicken dish. They also had cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the kids, and finger foods. We were pretty full from that. Then in the late evening they served dessert, coffee, tea, and liquers until 10:00pm. The desserts were to die for!

I will tell you this, the food used to be supplied by the California Grill but the concierge staff told us when we arrived that it was now being furnished by the Concourse Steakhouse. Also, they said that the dessert variety was discontinued but they would put out a cake. However, I was puzzled by that because the whole time we were there they did continue to have the variety of pastries in addition to the cake.

I think you could probably skip buying breakfast the whole time you're there. You might be able to skip a couple of dinners.

As far as the 14th floor as a whole, it was nice but I've stayed there 3 times now and each trip I've seen it decline a little bit more each time. The balconies are larger than standard rooms plus you have the advantage of using the balconies at the concierge lounge. They overlook the Magic Kingdom so even if you don't get a MK view you'll still be able to use the concierge lounge balcony. The bathrooms are much larger but I think the bedroom part of the room is slightly smaller than the regular rooms to make up for the larger balcony and bathroom. Evening turn down service comes standard with the price of the room. They also have check-in on the 14th floor so you don't have to stand in line downstairs. You'll also have a VCR and a refrigerator stocked daily with soda and water. That's about all I can remember. Hope that info helps.

Hi Dorie,
Thanks for the information. I was just wondering in what ways that you felt that the 14th floor concierge has declined? Was it the staff, food, a combination of things?
Thanks.
Chris

Hi Chris,

The first time we stayed on the 14th floor it was magical. It was our trip in 1998. We were given a free unexpected upgrade to concierge. The food was wonderful and they always had the lounge stocked with sodas and bottled water. The concierge staff went above and beyond the call of duty in helpfulness and friendliness. Mousekeeping was great. It was a perfect vacation.

Since we were so spoiled by our first stay on the 14th floor we decided to pay for a room on the 14th floor the next time we went back which was 3 years later. Things that I noticed that concerned me was the toilet in our room. It didn't flush very well and they never were able to get it fixed while we were there and the fixtures in the bathroom were scratched. I usually don't mind things of that nature but because I was paying $500 a night it did bother me. The other things that I didn't like were that they no longer had bottled water in the lounge. Instead they put out a big bottle of mineral water in a wine bucket that you had to pour into glasses. The concierge staff was helpful but not nearly as friendly as the first vacation. The evening turn-down mousekeeper was inconsistent too. Some nights she would turn down both beds and leave enough chocolate but other nights she would only turn down one bed and not leave enough chocolates. My 7 year old son was very bothered by that fact. Again, if I wasn't paying $500 a night for the room it might not have bothered me.

Our last trip was this January. We again paid $500 a night for the 14th floor. We were met by a concierge staffer first thing as we walked into the lounge. She told us that the food was no longer being furnished by the California Grill, it was now coming from the Concourse Steakhouse and I did notice a slight decline in the taste and variety of food they put out. We were also told that there would no longer be a variety of pastries laid out for evening dessert but they would instead put out a cake. I think I had mentioned in my previous post that that confused me a bit because for the rest of the week they did have the variety of pastries in addition to the cake. And there stilll was no bottled water in the lounge. They had the big bottle of mineral water in the wine bucket. The concierge staff again was not nearly as friendly or helpful as the first vacation. The turn-down Mousekeeper had the same problem of not turning down both beds but it happened on more nights then it did the second time around. And the fixtures in the bathroom were still scratched. The last thing that I was disappointed in with this trip was that the last 3 days of our trip the monorail wasn't working properly and the service was very delayed. That has nothing to do with the Contemporary hotel and I don't blame them for it but it was just another disappointment to add to our last vacation.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Contemporary hotel. After reading posts on this and other boards, I've come to the conclusion that you either love the Contemporary or hate it. There is no inbetween. I will continue to stay at the Contemporary but I no longer think it's worth the price to stay on the 14th floor. I hope you enjoy your vacation. Everything I've said above is just my opinion and because I had some bad experiences it doesn't mean you will too. Go in with an open mind ;)

Stayed on the CR 14th floor this past December. The one thing I noticed about the lounge was that it never was crowded even though the floor was almost completely booked.

It was our first time staying at the CR so I can't speak about its decline. However, I can speak about the decline of concierge CMs in general at just about all the resorts (have not stayed at GF or WL yet). The AKL still seems to have the magic.

The concierge CMs a few years ago would say hi as you left the elevator, and when you were leaving, they would ask if you had any questions or if they could help in any way. Now, they totally ignore you unless you go up to the desk, sit in the chair, and get their attention.

I am glad they reinstated concierge check in at the CR. In December, we had to check in in the lobby.

Out of the concierges we have stayed at, I also thought the CR CM were the least friendly. Weird.
