Contempo Cafe Question

I'm debating whether to do dinner at 'Ohana (5:10pm), Chef Mickey's (6:40pm) or Contempo Café before our Pirates 'n Pals Voyage on the first night of our trip. Kids are ages 15,13, 4 and 2. I'm not sure if the little ones would be too bored to sit nicely for 'Ohana, although the food looks great. I'm also not 100% sold on Chef Mickey's because we are doing the Backyard BBQ and Minnie's Holiday Dine, so we have two other opportunities to meet those characters (except Pluto, who is a favorite at our house). Just wondering.... if I went with Contempo Café, would the kids be able to see all the action going on inside Chef Mickey's? If my 2 year old could see the characters with other kids, but wasn't allowed to go over there, I'm sure we would be in for a meltdown and don't want to start the trip that way. What would you do? We're staying at the Cabins at Fort Wilderness, but won't get our golf cart until the next day, so grabbing counter service on the complete other end of the very large Resort wouldn't be convenient. Thank you!!! :)

Yes Chef Mickey's is visible. What time does your Pirates & Pals trip start?

How about Whispering Canyon at WL? It's fun and just a short boat ride away from CR.

There aren't any openings right now but I'm going to keep checking. I thought that might be a good choice too.

There's also The Wave at the Contemporary. It's a sit down place, but it's on a different floor than Chef Mickey's.

The Wave looks good... that's an option also.

I wouldn't suggest Ohana before P&P. AYCTE followed by a dessert buffet at P&P, then a boat, may be a recipe for chundering.

I was thinking that too... I don't want anyone to gorge themselves and then be out on a boat with no bathrooms! However, DS 15 is a type 1 diabetic, so I want him to be able to get a good meal in and not have to rely on cotton candy and sheet cake to fill him up for the night.

We are doing pirates and pals fireworks voyage and staying at the cabins at fort wilderness with our 4 kids too. We are doing contempo cafe before the voyage. I have been told by many there are a lot of snacks before the voyage and you should come hungry

Yes! We did the Pirates / Pals voyage (well, boat broke down, so that's another story, but still had a viewing area with desserts) and there are a lot of desserts. We had Mickey ice cream sandwiches, strawberry lemonade frozen fruit bars, pretzels, nachos/salsa, popcorn, cotton candy, cake, juice, tea, lemonade ... so tons of dessert type stuff. Nothing fancy, but a lot of sugar. We were staying at Contemporary, so we ate at Contempo Cafe at 5:00pm (beat the dinner crowd) and then enjoyed snacks at the dessert portion of fireworks cruise.

Oh, absolutely! I'm just saying that the big dessert thing after AYCTE may be way way too much. Contempo have flatbreads that can be happily split, and some of the better entrees at a "quick service" on property.

We just ate there. We couldn't see the characters at all, there are walls up. My son was asking why we couldn't see them. If you get off the monorail, you may be able to look down and see them, though.

First night of trip---'Ohana or Chef Mickey's AND Pirates & Pals could really be too much, especially after a travel day. You could have delays, things could happen. Contempo Cafe sounds like a great idea. With it being your travel day, exhaustion and stress of settling into your cabin and getting oriented and the boat over, etc, I just wouldn't make an ADR. With Backyard BBQ, Minnie's Holiday Dine, and P & P, it sounds like you are well booked. Minnie's Holiday Dine sounds like fun. Enjoy!

Agreed. I'm not sure how far you're traveling, but it takes me all day to get there. I don't like doing anything scheduled the first night.

Thanks guys. We're driving from Pennsylvania. We're going to leave Thanksgiving night or the following morning and plan to stay overnight halfway down. I anticipate that we'll arrive before our 3pm check in time, but if there is a storm or something else causing a delay we'll know far enough in advance to cancel.

If you have an ADR you need to cancel by 11:59 PM the night before your ADR, not on the way down

I realize that. I meant that I would be checking the weather that week, and if we're getting a massive snowstorm or something that would really delay us, we would know well ahead of time to alter our plans. DH has driven from PA to Disney before so I'm not too worried about it otherwise. We can always leave early and drive Thanksgiving Day if we need to.
