I tried contacts a few years ago, they were the toric lenses...they didn't work out for me. I just went to an eye doctor, he gave me the same contacts but then just don't seem to be doing the trick. I read abiut Bauah and lomb (sp) for an astigmatism and they sound good. Did anyone else have this problem with contacts, is it me and i am just to old to brak the rules of glasses, i am 49...any input will help. TIA Oh, I can read a paper and magazine perfect with these but to look at my computer I feel like I can see that well.

I use toric lenses and I haven't had any problems. It could be your lenses aren't settling on your eye properly. The weighted bottom may be a bit crooked?
:confused3

I had contacts for nearsighted and astigmatism. Since I work close up (dental hygienist) I don't blink enough and had a big problem with my eyes drying out. So I went to Montreal, Canada and had LASIK surgery. No more glasses or contacts. 20/20 vision. I would recommend looking into it. Then you never have to worry about the contacts again.

Feel free to PM me if you want to know more.

I have a severe astigmatism and I just can't get contacts to work for me either. Add to that, I have very dry eyes, and well, you get the picture. Because of the nature of my astigmatism the Dr. doesn't think I would be able to find a lense that could allow me to see as well as I do with glasses. He also highly recommended that I don't try Lasik. He said my astigmatism is just too much to correct that way and I most likely would still end up wearing glasses.

I have an astigmatism in my left eye, but for some reason the Dr didn't want me to get a toric lens. He just lowered the persription for that eye. It seems to work, but I would like to try a toric lens to see if I can see better with it. What is the difference between toric and regular lenses?

Severe astigmatism and nearsighted here, and I have to wear Gas Perms due to the astigmatism. I ask about the latest and newest lens for astigmatism each and every visit, and the Dr. just smiles and shakes his head "no".

I don't want lasik because I would lose the great "up close" vision I enjoy when I take out my lens at night.

I've also tried toric lenses and they just didn't work for me. My eyes would burn and itch the entire time they were in.

I'm not sure that I'd want to do the Lasic Surgery.

Honestly, glasses work well for me and they are reasonably affordable. Maybe I'll try contacts again in the future.

I have an astigmatism in one of my eyes and wear the toric lense. I have to say it really bothered me the first couple of days. I only wore it for a couple of hours a day and gradually built up from there. Now I can wear them all day and it doesn't bother me at all. If you just can't stand it, hang in there for a couple of weeks and see if it gets better.

Torric is shapped different then a regular contact. An astigmatism has a a football shape compared to anormal eye thatis round like a basketball. Toric has teeny weights on them I think that is why they move, you dont feel them move but visualy you can tell.

I wear contacts and have the same problem, but my doc fitted me correctly and I have never had a problem. The weights on the one lens work great.

I am going to that this time, hang in there...not give up and just wait and see. I look at it this way, I give myself a shot everyday for my MS so this is like a walk in the park.

Thanks everyone for your responces, at least I know I am not alone :cheer2:

I use toric lenses for nearsightness and astigmatism...when I first got them, it did take a while to get used to them. I had to gradually build up to wearing them for long periods of time. Now I can wear them for 12 + hours without problems. Did your Dr give you the disposables? When my Dr suggested the disposables, I hated them. They just didn't feel comfortable and I felt like I couldn't see out of them properly. A few years later, he had me try a different disposable and they are great....I guess my eye is very rounded and the previous disposables did not fit correctly. The new ones fit great and I liek that I can get a fresh pair every month or two. They don't cost anymore than the regular contacts I had been getting either. I wonder if you are having a similar problem??

I have astigmatism and have worn gas permeable lenses for years with no problems. I got them from Sears Optical; I think the brand name was Polycon. They're a rigid lens that lets the oxygen through, or something like that--at least that's how I remember it being explained to me so long ago.

I just "broke" one of my lenses! It actually cracked as I was about to put it in my eye! But they were quite old, maybe 5 years. So, I'm wearing my glasses all the time until I can get the lenses replaced. It's really weird--especially driving!

I also have astigmatism and nearsightedness, I now wear RGP lenses, I used to wear toric...I can only compare it to what I wear now, they were quite comfortable compared to my RGPs! (Rigid Gas Permeable lenses) But I have adjusted, and I can see so much better now. So I'm sure with the right fit you could adjust as well...my dr. was a major nut about making sure they fit right, which was a good thing for me. Make sure he or she takes the time to see that they do fit correctly, if you ever try contacts again.

I started wearing contacts a couple of years ago. It wasn't until I was fitted that I knew I had astigmatism. I wear Baush and Lomb Torics, they're the only contacts I know. I did need some time to adjust, close up would be perfect (reading), far away (like driving) was awesome, but adjusting to the midrange (computer at work) was hard to adjust. It doesn't bother me now, unless my contacts are dry or near time for replacement.
