Contacted someone about a home to rent

and they are a little pushy. We are not going until Oct 2009 and she has sent me a couple emails regarding the deposit of $250.
There is no info from previous renters on the VRBO site and I am a little leery now. I told we could send the deposit on Monday through paypal and her response was ok, but someone else might take it by then.
What do you think?

I don't see a problem here. All the renter wants to do is get you to commit to renting the home. Until you make the commitment then the renter is perfectly entitled to rent to someone else.

I understand that, it's the pushiness of it that bothers me. I did say if someone else came along this weekend to rent it next year, go ahead and rent it.
We are paying through paypal and don't have it set up through our bank, yet. That is why we have to wait until Monday, and I told her that. We just have c.c. through it.

I do understand that some places book a distance out during prime weeks, but I don't think there is any reason for her to be that way...especailly if you are aware and you know that someone else could come and rent it.

We are renting a 3 bedroom WH condo from Robinson this October. We looked and looked for weeks and they still had an opening so we booked it. This was just a few weeks ago.

If they are pushy, I wouldn't give them my business. Your trip is over a year away. I do understand that some places book a distance out during prime weeks, but I don't think there is any reason for her to be that way...especailly if you are aware and you know that someone else could come and rent it.

There are a lot of places out there.

I guess I just wanted someone to confirm that it sounded fishy. The other homeowners we contacted were not as aggressive. Plus, with no references or reviews, I started getting leery.
I checked into Robinsons condo, too. I went back to it today after all this with the homeowner. I think we will probably go that way.

If you feel uncomfortable, don't do it. There are a ton of other houses out there to rent.

Not fishy necessarily, but I agree with Sarah. I wouldn't book with anybody who was pushy like that.
