Contact wearers rejoice !

Thanks for the link.

Hoping that is the case. DH really needs to carry-on his contacts (actually they are eye-shapers (CRT), not contacts) so they cannot be easily replaced or worn on the plane as he wears them at night. They are kept in solution, not saline, so that should be okay according to this article.

We fly out on Sunday so I hope it is "clear" to all the TSA checkers at the airport.

Great news, thanks for the update.

I just need a few single use rewetting drops so I am sure that will be ok as well as a couple pair of new disposables in the original snap pack.

I went out and bought my 4oz. bottle of saline solution tonight. Had to go to three stores to get it! Apparently, they are running out now that they announced that you could have them. I am just glad that I found one.

For those of us who are in the metric system (ie the rest of the world, I believe! :) ) 4oz equals 120 ml, according to an online conversion chart.

* Actually, the US, Myanmar, and Liberia are the three countries which have not officially adopted the metric system, according to ask.com and the US Metric Association!

If you want small bottles, stores are not the best source - call your doctor's office. They have zillions of samples in sizes that are less that 4 oz. I always save mine for travel and refill from the large bottle. (Yes, Virginia, the top does come off.)

The problem is the price for the 4 oz bottles isn't that much less than the price for the larger bottles. As a result very few stores stock the small bottles.

This is a product that is generally available, not just CVS.

Many eye doctors and articles recommend throwing out a bottle 30 days after opening it and never to top it off. It may depend what kind of solution it is. I'd check with your doctor before topping off a sample bottle, particularly saline without preservatives.

I bought a 4oz. bottle of OptiFree Express solution from a drug store here in town for $4.79. I figure it is sealed so I shouldn't have any problems. Because we are leaving on an early morning flight and I will have my contacts in for hours, the $4.79 was worth my piece of mind.

I've been using the small bottles for years now. Carrying on a full 16 oz. bottle of solution was not ever something I was willing to do.

I don't use straight saline; only the full soaking solution that does have preservatives. The small bottles I get from my eye doctor hold 2 oz., so I do go through that in around 30 days since I travel frequently. Naturally, I'm careful when refilling the bottles (carefully washed hands, no funnels, etc.), and I switch out the small bottles every couple of months. My doctor will give them to me any time, so I usually get 2-3 of them a couple of times a year. A large bottle of solution normally lasts me about 8 weeks, with about half of it going into the small bottle.

GREAT news! Thanks for posting this. I hadn't heard it yet and was fretting over what I would do. I usually bring my case with me with a bit of fresh solution in it, and my glasses in case the dry air gets to be too much. Though this flight under 2 hours to Orlando shouldn't be that bad, I was worried that I would just have to wear my bent up "only wear late at night in the privacy of my own home" glasses and deal with them until our luggage shows up hours later at the resort.
