Contact Lenses question

Another question.. last year I started to wear contacts - I must confess I am so excited at the prospect of being able to properly see the themed queues in Universal and take them in properly - rather than it being a blurry scene as I had to store my glasses in the locker.

Does anyone else wear contacts? and are they ok to wear on the rides etc.. I accept I have to remain partially sighted in water parks but it will be fab to be able to properly take in the surroundings this year. I never wore my glasses on the coasters as I was so scared they would come off!

I wear daily lenses so will always carry a couple spare in my bag - any advice would be appreciated

DH used to wear contacts (before having his eyes lasered last year). He wore gas permeable (hard) lenses and never had any problems on the rides.

He used to wear them when swimming too. If you wear daily disposables, it might be worth wearing them to go to the water parks and just take a spare pair with you to wear afterwards or put on glasses afterwards.

The one thing my DH did say is that the air (or lack of) on the flights used to really dry his eyes out so he always used to wear his glasses on the plane.

I've worn them from sunrise to sunset for 25 years now (wow I'm old) and never had anything that has made me take them out. They're fine on any ride I've been on.

I've worn them for years and years and into water parks, too. The only problem I've had is some dryness in a dark attraction. It sometimes happens in the movies, too.
One thing to do is always have re-wetting drops for that dryness.

I've been wearing contacts for years and I always wear them in Florida. I wear them to the waterparks too. I took them out part way through the flight as they seem to be drying out, DH just wore his glasses for the flight. With spare pairs you should be able to wear them all the time. It also allows you to wear sunglasses. Enjoy your holiday!

Thanks all - great answers - I do have prescription sunglasses too but excellent to know that people do not have problems with them.

Will probably wear my glasses for the flight though.

I wear lens and have done for years.

I wear in the parks and water parks. At the water parks either wear googles or remember to close your eyes before the splashes as I nearly lost one at BB!

Never had any issues nor has DH who also wears lens. I usually wear fortnightly lens but switch to dailies for holiday as they are easier.

Been wearing contact lenses (gas permeable) for over 30 years now and the only time I put my glasses on is during the flight. My eyes really dry out on the flight and if I doze they feel a bit gritty when I come to. I also wear them at the water parks and swim under water without a problem. Enjoy the new experience of being able to see!

Prior to having our eyes lasered both me and DH wore lenses with no problems.

Only time i had an issue was with summit plummet

I wear lenses and have never had any problems. The only time I wont wear them is on the flight.

definitely take your contacts off during the flight

as was previously said, the air inside the plane is desert dry. The lenses will make it very uncomfortable for you. (some are more sensitive to this than others) but be sure to take them off and wear glasses instead while you're in the air.

been wearing lenses for 31 years now and DS for three years and we've never had problems on rides but when we do the 3d films (definitely Mickey's Philarmagic and the other may be the bugs life I think) and they blow air into the auditorium it can slightly move our lenses. That's the only issue we have had.

Same! been wearing mine over 20 years now. I hated glasses and don't even own prescription glasses but can't see anything 6ft in front of me without my contacts in I swim with them in too.

Only time I have issues is Kali River Rapids so I have learned to take some drops and solution with me when we go to AK but otherwise, as above - never had a reason to take them out

I keep mine in during the flight and take a pack of those single application anti allergy drops for contacts with me. I also stop at my optician before we go away and they just give me a 100ml mini bottle of solution to take on the plane

Bring a small bottle of contact lens drops,such as Refresh.That way if your lens does dry out you can put some drops in.Its also good if you manage to rub your lens in a uncomfortable position or get something in your eye,because you can clean the contact and put it back in.I also carry a spare contact lens for each eye in case one I`m wearing gets too uncomfortable.I wear daily disposible so very easy to keep spares with me,or in the car.
Lens are great at the parks,especially if it rains and no worrying you will forget to take your glasses off for a ride.

3 out of the4 of us wear them at parks & swimming too. Never lost one on a ride- but have occasionally when swimming - daily disposables so no probs. My optician advised me to remove after wearing all day at a water-park-less likely to cause sore eyes apparently. Enjoy

Last year I developed a corneal ulcer on the last day of our holiday I nearly lost the sight in my left eye I've always worn GP lenses but last year decided to get disposables This seems not to have been a good idea ( long story) But one thing the hospital said never never swim in disposables as anything in the water ie bacteria etc will be absorbed in the lens and then ultimately in the eye

If you are wearing daily disposables it is probably as easy to pop a spare pair in your pocket / bag when you go in to the parks. My DH lost a lens on the Indiana Jones ride a few years ago and as he can only see about 6 inches without them this was a bit of a problem.

And I agree - swimming in lenses is really not be recommended - some people will get away with it for years, but you only have one pair of eyes, is it really worth taking the risk.

Thanks again for the replies - I am not too bothered about water parks as I have accepted being blind and tend to wear my plastic prescription sunglasses.

But pleased to know that they are safe on rides etc
