Okay, hoovers/vacuum cleaners may not be the most interesting subject in the world, but they become more interesting when you are going to buy a new one (well, a little bit more!!) ... the thing is, I'm hoping for some suggestions/recommendations please!

Are Dysons just the best thing to have?

(Does anyone have a Which? report on hoovers??)

Shirley go for a Dyson. I would never buy anything else :)

I have access to the Which? tests and the "Dyson DC07 Animal" comes out as the best performing upright cleaner - although Dyson comes bottom of the reliability tables!

We have a Dyson DC04 and find it very good - especially now we have a little hairy friend :)
The only problem we have had with it is a slit hose - we got a replacement for £20.

When we first had it and ran it over our lounge carpet we were amazed at the amount of dust etc. that it picked up compared to our old 'bagged' cleaner.

We decided to get a new hoover when we had new flooring all over the house a few years ago. So off we went to our local retailer who we have bought loads of stuff from with the thought of getting a Dyson. They thought I was mad for wanting a Dyson even though they actually sold them there! They recommended a Sebo which I had never heard of before. It was the same price as the Dyson I had my eye on and they said if after a week I didn't like it, I could bring it back and change it for the Dyson. They also did a demonstration in the store for me. Well I still have the Sebo and it is brilliant. It does have a bag but my word, it does suck up the dust and has an excellent filter on it too. You can dismantle virtually evert bit without needing a degree in engineering in the event of a blockage too. The bags come with little stoppers to stop clouds of dust billowing out making cleaning a breeze - unlike Dysons. I reckon I can change the bag in about 15 seconds!!! The Sebo has a self adjusting brush so it can go straight from hard floors to carpets. We have got a solid oak floor in the lounge and lobby which cost a fortune and I use it safely on that ans also on our ceramic kitchen floor. We bought an extra long hose with it so it reaches up the stairs too. If you are allergy sufferers you can also get a super dooper filter (HEPA??).

And to top it all, John Lewis really recmmend them and loads of stores use them to clean their own carpets as they are so reliable.

The one I have would never win any prizes for looks but the new one they have brought out looks superb.

I would definitely buy another one but this one looks as though it will be going on for years and years!!

We are another Dyson household - have had no problems so far with ours :)

Just to say that the Dyson DC07 Animal is the one we just got before Christmas and have to say that it is brilliant:)
I have had a DC01 for about 6 years now, we took the extended guarantee out. In all those years I have had to have a new hose and a new motor in, it didnt cost us a penny. Its still going strong.
I dont think that is bad going considering I have 2 dogs that shed hair continously throughout the year!!

Wow this is great info :) ! I knew I could rely on you! Thank you.

I'll be checking these out asap.

We've also got a Dyson and wouldn't dream of going back to a bag-based cleaner. Ours has given us troble free cleaning for several years, including heavy duty hoovering when we had a lot of building and renovation work in the house (it was brick dust that killed our two previous traditional hoovers).

Regards

Rob

I think we must have an old model of an upright Dyson because I find it soooooo heavy that I've given up using it. Hope they're made lighter now.

I agree with Sam . . . ours does seem quite heavy, but still think it's the best "hoover" we've ever had.

The only downside of the Dyson is having to see what you've picked up:eek:
