Construction update... Pictures posted

My planner told me in an email this morning that the scrim was only temporary and will be coming down mid January.

OMG its almost laughable. My date is 1/14. I wonder if it will be up by then. I almost want to send someone to go paint the construction walls within their mural... sheesh. Maybe if the elmers glue wrinkles werent there it wouldnt be as bad... but a pretty scene ruined... argh.

I e-mailed my coordinator immediately after reading this thread. They never mentioned that there would be construction near the wedding pavilion when we started booking! Sad to say it will still look terrible for our wedding as well in November 2012. She sent me a picture of what the stage is supposed to look like by December 2012 and there will still be cranes and things visible by the wedding pavilion...so mad they never mentioned anything from the beginning!

:sad2:

MissManners have you heard back from your planner yet?

MissManners have you heard back from your planner yet?

My planner just gave me the standard "sorry I didn't tell you, everything will be fine" line. I was livid, and let her know. People should not have to find out about this crap on the boards, their planners should be letting them know. I received a voicemail today from Disney Guest services, so still need to call them back.

Eww, that looks awful! :( I thought the blue walls looked pretty ok (a classy alternative), but this looks just plain tacky....

I am going tomorrow to hand in my LOA and to show my parents my venues including the WP. I am kind of freaking out! This is kinda, well it is really annoying!!!! GEEZ!!! :scared1::sad1::sad2:

Sorry it took so long to post these photos, we got home really late Friday night and I did not have much computer access while we were in Disney. Here they are....

I'm so sick to my stomach and vivid about these walls being right up on the WP. REALLY?? There is NO NEED for that if the construction/building is not going to be that close and if it is well I'm changing venues.

The walls by Franks at the wedding pavilion also blow my mind. Seeing all these walls makes me feel boxed in to something that was once beautiful and open. Adding the windows was not the greatest thing but it wasn't the WORST thing.... The walls are now making me second guess the WP and I'm so sick about this...

What are the 2012 brides doing that have a bit of time??:scared1:

I, personally, am not and have no intention of changing from the WP. I saw the walls and the scrim for myself last week, and it really didn't bother me. My fiance didn't even notice it until I pointed it out (and that's not minimizing it at all, he's just oblivious). But my reasons for picking the WP are the ones that remail unchanged by the construction - the castle view from inside and just the feeling he and i both had being inside of it. We weren't hung up on the staged exit or the pictures outside, so for us, it's a non-factor. I really do feel for the brides that got taken by surprise by it though, if you had your heart set on what it would look like from the outside for pictures or the coach ride or something, i can see that being a disappointment.

Also, i don't know how close the actual building will be, but when we went by the GF on the boat, the construction and supports that they have on the beach are actually fairly close to the wall - close to the WP than I had thought they'd be. Not knowing anything about construction, i dont know what the structures I saw were for, but they are close enough to the WP for me to do a double take.

I know exactly how you feel, I was in shock when I saw this crap was up without any warning. I tried to keep it together but I couldn't. I balled my eyes out. I couldn't believe Disney did this. I don't know how they could even think that thing looks nice. Of course like with everything else they tried to convince me it was just fine and there was no reason to be upset. They also tried to tell me about these wonderful photos their photographers were taking in front of it. I couldn't believe they were telling me that because its just pathetic to use that. We had moved locations once and then were convinced that everything was going to be fine for wedding due to the delay so we went back to the WP. Nobody will ever convince me this scrim is ok and I made sure my photographers did some practice photos to make sure it would not be in my photos. However, I can tell you that the only time I really noticed the scrim was when I walked the bridge before getting married but never noticed it again. I was so happy and excited to be marrying the man of dreams that I guess I blocked it out. There was so much other stuff going on that I was focused on.

I will tell you it is up because there is work going on. THere trucks digging stuff up behind the spa and down at the beach. Again another surprise as there wasn't suppose to be any trucks. They stopped the construction for the ceremony but that was it because I noticed it when I got in Cinderellas Coach so again I was not too happy but let it go because nothing was going to ruin my day,Disney had ruined enough with this whole thing. There are also all kind of stuff in the water when you look out the window with Cinderellas castle but it is only visible if you are standing close and look to your left so we had to angle pictures but your guests won't see. I am really sorry you have to go through this as well, I hope you are able to figure something out that will make you happy on your special day!! Just remember I too thought felt the same way as you but when it came to that day everything was amazing.

Hey everyone! I have been lurking for a while, but I registered to try to lessen some fears about the scrim at the Wedding Pavilion. I had my Escape wedding there last Tuesday (12/6) and it was an amazing experience! Yes, the scrim is there, yes, the scrim is kinda ugly in person, but it is blocking a much uglier scene on the beach. While it seems that the construction is farther away, it is RIGHT next to the pavilion on the beach that it starts to look rather gross. I am very surprised that there is enough room between the WP and the GF to add the villas, to be honest!

So yes, that is the bad news. The good news follows!

1) The other side of the bridge overlooks the Polynesian resort and beach, and it is so gorgeous that I was staring at that and not at the scrim!

2) The planners (I had Tanis, and she was awesome) are doing the best they can with a bad situation - from what I can tell there was nothing they could do about it and they aren't necessarily in a position to tell much about what's going on. Although I certainly understand that brides would want to be notified about those kinds of aesthetic changes, I do not envy the planners' position.

3) Tanis did reassure me that the photographers use Photoshop to smooth out the scrim's picture and that the pictures look very good after this is done. Our photographer, Ty, didn't take any pictures specifically in front of the scrim, and you can request that the photographer do or do not take specific photos. There are plenty of beautiful spots around the pavilion for photos, don't worry!

4) Once you are inside the pavilion, you can't see or hear any construction. At least, we couldn't! And we got married at 2:30 on a Tuesday, and there was definitely stuff happening. Tanis was very willing to move my cake-cutting from the GF terrace to an indoor location because they were told there might be noise (trucks backing up, etc) but I turned that down because it was beautiful out, I love the terrace, and I wouldn't let some trucks ruin my day! Turns out if there was noise, I didn't notice. We had a violinist playing and everyone had a great time. Nobody noticed the construction, either with noise or visuals.

5) Most important: it's your wedding day! I was worried about the construction taking me out of that mindset, but it didn't. I was so focused on being nervous right before ;) and on marrying my best friend that I didn't even notice, except as more of a passing glance. Please don't worry, fellow brides! You will have a great time, don't stress about the construction, your photos will be gorgeous, your guests will have fun (buy them extra booze after to make up for it if you feel inclined! :lmao: ), and at the end of the day you'll be married!!!

I hope this has helped some of you guys feel better, trust me, when I saw that scrim I was like "***! I am getting married NEXT TUESDAY!!!", but it was totally fine the day of and I didn't even care. It's all about love, folks! Get your great pictures, focus on the positives, don't let stress get you down. And congrats on your weddings!

My Planner is going to email me photos of the Projection of what it will look like around my wedding time on thursday. Hoping that it will set my mind at ease. I just don't want my guests to have to experience construction. Not what a wedding should have surrounding it :confused3

The scrim was put there temporarily to hide the fact that they are adjusting the landscaping so that they can have a foundation to put the trees and floral in front of the walls just like in the renderings that the planners have been mailing us.

Oh dear. That's terrible for those couples not being notified ahead of time. We really wanted our ceremony at the WP - mostly because of the beach and walkway bridge, but we were happy with our venue.

Things we cannot control will always come up, but beautiful weddings can and will continue to happen there.

Hi,

Does anyone know when this construction is due to be completed? We are set to get married in September and just found this out, we have been sent the contract to sign but may hold off for another venue, maybe at the sea breeze point if that's no effected?

I understand it's not due to open until late 2013, so it'll definitely still be happening this September.

Sea Breeze Point is on the Boardwalk near EPCOT so the construction isn't interfering with ceremonies there. That is unless they are doing something entirely different at that location as well!
