Construction in Jacksonville? Help

We are driving from NC to disney tomorrow and were planning on taking 295 off of 95 around jacksonville then back onto 95. A friend of mine just came back on monday and said she couldn't get onto to 295 that the exits were blocked, and that the traffic thru the city was awful because of construction.
Does anyone know if 295 is blocked off or was she confused by the area? If so anyone have any alternate ways to get around jacksonville? Thanks for any help. We are driving with a 7 month old so the less time in the car and traffic the better!

Depending on what time you hit Jacksonville, you may be better off just staying on 95.

I agree, in the six times we've driven in the past year, we've always gone straight through on I-95. As long as you aren't there in the height of rush, J'Ville isn't a traffic nightmare by any means.
