Not sure if this has been asked/covered but we are planning on being out there in March 2018 for Spring Break. Will any of the new construction have started by then, namely work on Paradise Pier? We don't want to come if there is a lot of work being done to the park. Thanks!

I thought I read Pixar Pier is set to "open" in 2018. If that's true...there may be some construction. But right now...I don't think anyone knows for sure.

Frankly, I would not let that hold you back. There seems to always be something happening at the parks construction wise. The goods news is DL will be put back together by then!

There will always be some construction going on...Disney does a pretty good job of covering it up though.
They usually have most rides operating for the spring break crowds (fewer refurbs at this time).

I have been wondering the same thing as we are planning on going sometime in either April or May. I hope it doesn't cause any rides to close.

Also, does anyone know when Pirates will be closing for the planned refurb that will include changing the auction scene?

I thought I heard that was happening this fall.

I hope not! I thought the announcement was it would happen next year. There is no POTC refurb scheduled yet, but DLR isn't exactly prompt about posting that sort of thing.
ETA: went back and Parks Blog says it will appear in 2018, doesn't state when ride will go down for refurb

Just so you are aware: rides always go down that time of year as Disney will be prepping for summer (which kicks off Memorial Weekend). Some rides are short refurbs, some are months long. No one knows how extensive the refurb on POTC will be when then add this new scene in.

Loaded question there :)

If park work is actually a deal breaker you'll have to hold off on deciding on your trip. I really don't think you should, to each their own. There's always construction there imho, Pixar Pier 2018, Eastern Gateway eventually (that will shut down the monorail for a while), Star Wars should finish in 2019, Marvel 202?, construction on Downtown Disney, even maybe 5 years from now a new Disney Hotel and parking structure coming to the DtD parking lot. Those are just the projects we know about which leaves construction running for the next half a decade.

As far as construction affecting rides- DLR doesn't notify very well at all, so just because POTC has no refurb planned today doesn't mean they won't post a 3 month refurb starting in a couple weeks tomorrow. It sucks a lot for planning but it's just the nature of how they run this park. (Personally I'm not sure how much work the Pier will need to change & they will for sure open in 2018, so it could very likely be under some sort of construction for the beginning of the year.) FWIW Disney works to hide their construction as much as possible to make it as least intrusive as possible to the guest experience.

What exactly does Pixar Pier mean? Is it just new signs for the same pier? There is talk about construction so I'm trying to imagine where new stuff would go.

I was at the D23 Expo session where they announced this. Very little detail has been given other than it will be "the place to meet Pixar characters. Heck, it could mean that just change the signs from Paradise Pier to Pixar Pier. But we all suspect it will be more. There was no talk I heard at the Expo about rides being changed.

I'm wondering if it won't be more of a facelift to the area, you know like when Condor Flats became Grizzly Peak Airfield. Main attractions stayed the same, the area around them was re-themed...

I know concept art isn't always accurate. But it shows Mickey's Funwheel name changed to Pixar Funwheel. So Maybe they'll be taking down Mickey and putting something else. I suspect it will just be stuff like that. No new actual rides or anything.

But that's just because Disney seems to like to cheap out with overlays these days.

Could TOTALLY see that as the parks seem like they're entering the next phase of price rising. The Blue Bayou changes ridding the menu of the "cheap" Monte Cristo, the Monte Cristo at Café Orleans upping to $20, Mickey's Halloween Party tickets going up 20%...
