WOW! You all are amazing! I am so happy I found you all:yay:

I am also relieved to see that so many of you have the same questions I have been tourturing myself with.

I was wondering if any one has heard about construction to the Grand Floridian? We are planning to have our cocktail hour and reception there. When I received my contract the other day there was a clause stating that I understood that this would be taking place.
Does anyone know how long this may be for?:confused3

Welcome to the boards! When's your wedding??

Thank you so much! I am so excited:banana:
The wedding is February 12, 2009

I am wondering the same thing. My wedding is in December but I also saw that in the contract. We are staying the GF, so I hope it's not loud construction! :rotfl:

From what I was told, all the carpet is being replaced with marble, which should take a while. It will also prevent whatever weddings are going on those days to take pictures on the stair case. When I was there on Wednesday, condtruction had already began. The roof at Whitehall was begin re-done, so I guess it continuous. I wasn't given any dates or anything for the carpet, so I have been worried about that!

I got curious and just called the GF and was told there was no construction planned for my wedding week in December. So then I called my wedding coordinator and asked her about it. She said they are putting that information into the contract for all WP weddings from now until Feb 2009 as a percaution because the GF will be doing construction off & on now through Feb. If I were you I would just call the GF with your dates and ask them if anything is scheduled during that time. And yes, they are replacing the floors.

Not to be "Debbie Downer" or anything but I wish you the best of luck in getting firm dates for construction from ANYONE!

When I was planning my wedding we had booked rooms at the Poly (and planned on getting married at Sunset Pointe). Only after reading the resorts board here did I learn that much of the Poly was undergoing rehab that year. Two months before my wedding I found out that the very building we were going to be in was scheduled for rehab the same month as my wedding...but no dates were confirmed.:scared1:

I called EVERYONE...DFTW, the Poly manager...no one could confirm the dates and whether or not the rooms/building we requested would be available. Rather than waiting until we arrived to find out, we rescheduled our wedding location to SBP and rooms at the Boardwalk.

I'm sure DFTW is being cautious just letting you know and even if there is some construction going on in the GF it may not even effect your reception locations...but I'm not sure you will get any definite answer before you arrive.

When in December is your Wedding?? We are December 6th and the one photoshot I want is the Staircase and I will be pretty bummed if I can't get it.. :( :(

I asked planner and she said not ideas -- maybe I can get something out of them when we go for planning session on Friday..

Thank you all for your input. I too will agree that getting date confirmed for the construction is like nailing jello to a tree.
When I asked the planner about this, she too had informed me about the floor being replaced but she also mentioned that another area (not White Hall) was having their roof replaced. I was just curious because the way my luck goes, my ceremony pictures will have the ripped roof in stead of the castle for a back ground;)

Good luck Snow White and Sleeping Princess.
