I'm trying to narrow my hotel choices for a trip in March. Although it's not my favorite, DI&S is at the top of my list because we prefer walking distance and need a lot of space for our group this time around. This message appears on their website:

We would like to inform our valued guests that beginning August 25, 2025, maintenance work will be taking place throughout the property as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance and maintain our facilities.
Please be advised that this work may generate noise and dust, particularly between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM.
In addition, some guest rooms may not be accessible between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, depending on where the work is taking place. Guests will be notified the day before if their room is expected to be affected. We kindly ask guests to plan accordingly, as access to and from the room may be temporarily restricted during this time.
Our team is available to assist with any questions or special arrangements you may need. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to improve your experience with us.

I called for more information, but ended up in an endless hold loop. Does anyone know how long this construction is scheduled to take? I'm glad the rooms are getting a much needed refresh, but not having access to our room during the day would be a problem.

Called and spoke to a human.

They hope/expect to be done by the end of the month. He says it's mostly sanding and refurnishing things.

That is interesting they are still doing construction. The last time we were there, in August of 2024, they were doing construction on the roof.

The problem was that they didn't notify us until we arrived and saw the notice in the elevator. We booked about 5 months in advance and there was no info on the site at that time about it. We like to go back to the room for a break, but it was almost impossible during the length of our stay (4 nights). They were replacing the roof and there would be consistent drilling/scraping/pounding/loud steps from about 2pm-5pm and possibly earlier but we weren't in the room at that time. They took a nominal amount off our bill, which was better than nothing, but were extremely reluctant when we first spoke to them because they said it was on us to have known about the construction (but like I said, we hadn't been notified via email or phone and it's silly to think we should have to visit the website again after booking and before our stay to find out this info). Totally get that this is a necessary thing for the hotel, but for our needs we could have found another hotel that would have worked better for us needing to rest for a couple hours during the day. It probably didn't impact most people if they are staying at the parks from rope drop to closing, but anyone with kids needing naps would have an issue.

It was kind of disappointing because we are pretty loyal to DI&S, but that experience was crappy. I remember after a pretty terse negative initial interaction with a male employee at the front, we went to the park and sat down on a bench to try and figure out if we should go back and pack up our stuff to walk to a different hotel. He told us we would not be refunded for the unused nights if we chose to leave because it was on us to know about this. I searched for an hour on my phone instead of enjoying the parks for different hotels but most along Harbor and Katella were sold out at that point anyway. I didn't leave a negative review or anything, but encourage people to really consider that the noise can be very intrusive in the room if you stay there when they have disclosed construction.

Hi Cal-Pie,
I just was at the Yelp page of Desert Inn And Suites and there was no mention of construction work listed but I was able to find an alternative motel you should consider. It is called Anaheim Islander Inn and it looks great from the reviews and the Anaheim Islander Inn is a short easy walk to both Disneyland and Downtown Disney. Hope you have a good trip in March 2026 and hope this advice is helpful to you
