Where exactly is the construction at AKL? A friend recently returned and mentioned that he changed rooms because there was construction on the floor above him during the day. So I asked if it was due to the Villa's and he said it seemed to just be inside the main hotel. When I mentioned the new area he looked at me like I was crazy and said he didn't notice anything? Was he just in a fog or can you not really see any of this? I know when they built the Wilderness Lodge Villas there was no missing it. What construction is going on inside the main hotel then?

the dvc units on the 5th and 6th floor.

was in one of the 5th floor and didn't heard anything.

now the outside area to me is hard to miss. but if you SV was pointed away from it - you just might.

couldn't have seem it from my room (pool view)

but would think some of the resort would.

look at on this link - maps of the resort

look between Ostrich and East Africian Crowned Crane (icons) - this is where I saw off in the distance - construction.

Does anyone know when the main building construction will be complete? I am hoping it'll be done by the time we go in December.

We totally missed checking out the new building on our last trip. We were on the Zebra trail which is farther away from the new building (think the right wing, from the lobby). I knew the new building was there only because I had read about it in advance...otherwise, I kept forgetting to drive down a little further to check it out. It was not obvious to us...FYI...

When I booked AKL for December 2007, the CM said that construction would be going on until April 2009. I don't know if that included what was going on inside the lodge or not, but she gave me the option to book another resort, but we aren't in the room much during the day, so it won't bother me.

The construction in the existing (Jambo) lodge will be complete by early December. The new DVC building (Kidani) will be under construction until 4/2009. Kidani is far enough removed from AKL that construction noise shouldn't be a factor at all. So..... no worries! :thumbsup2

That's great to know!!! DF and I were wondering about the construction noise. thanks for the info!

We're just back from 4 nights at AKL. If someone didn't tell me that there was construction going on, I'd have never known. We were in a 4th floor room looking at the uzima savannah( I have no idea which trail this was sorry) and didnt' see or hear any sign of construction once. In the common areas of the resort as well we never heard or saw anything either.

Maybe we just didn't know where to look. Which seemed to have worked out just fine. :)

Just returned today from an 8 night stay at AKL. When we first arrived, you could see the black draping on the top floors, from the lobby. A couple of days ago, it was gone. We stayed on the Zebra Trail and never heard any construction noise. I must say, that if I had a room overlooking the construction area, I would have been disapointed. Not a pretty site.

Wow, this wasn't our experience at all. We were on Kudu Trail facing Sunset Savanna and we absolutely heard noise from new building construction. This was in September and they were doing groundwork and using lots of big noisy equipment. And they started very very early in the morning. On the bright side, we never heard any noise from construction inside Jambo house.

How far down Kudu Trail were you? I guess the further you are from the lobby, the more likely you will hear construction noise. I'm sorry to hear they started so early. Also, I'm sure there are phases of the construction where the noise will be worse -- and that usually is during the initial phases. (lots of drilling/boring, & pouring) :headache:

Glad to hear from PlutosFriend that the black draping came down. :thumbsup2

DISNEYmooner2008: I know this will probably concern you so I'm going to suggest that you request "close to lobby"; you might also want to request Zebra Trail. (and don't worry - it will be fine!) :)

We were pretty far down, on the last section that juts out.
We get up early so the noise didn't really interrupt our sleep or anything. But it was surprising. The equipment was noisy when it moved but it was the backing up beep beep beep sounds that were the worst.
Here's the view from our balcony. We were on the 3rd floor so we couldn't see much thru the trees.

That does look like you were very close to the construction. Glad to hear it didn't wake you at least. (I'm sure the beep, beep, beep would get very annoying after a few minutes though. :headache:)
