We went to MK today and there is a huge area along World Drive that has been deforested...for a lack of a better word. It's not near any park or Disney Springs. What on earth are they doing?

They are putting a wind farm in that location.

Driving around property you will see a lot of areas that have been cleared recently. I think the area your talking about is north of Yacht & Beach club next to their overflow parking lot. Best guess would be just more parking for those resorts but there was also talks of a solar farm recently and no word on where that could be located.

Nope. Solar farm being put in by Duke energy on 20 acres at World Dr and Epcot Dr that will produce 5 megawatts. Disney will purchase all the power.
All she said was world drive so that's what I've thought of first. Only other thing would be maybe work on the new bypass is getting underway.

The same question was asked on wdwmagic and everyone including the site administrator said its the solar farm.

It's the solar farm, they just started the work and many people on several boards are commenting about it.

Well lets hope this doesn't cause accidents on that section of road, just distracted drivers looking or glare from the panels. I wonder what system they are using, fixed, single axis or dual axis. Also the deal with Duke seems so random to me. Why not just build it yourself and cut your energy cost (well the answer could be solar panels used to be break even in installation cost vs energy saved only if government tax credits were factored in). But the whole leasing the land for 15 years to Duke then buying the energy back.

Being silly. Maybe this is Disney building a Archimedes Death Ray to make sure their no fly zone is clear

Duke has a solar farm on I40/I85 in Mebane, NC. There is not a glare issue that I have ever seen from it. That farm is fixed panel array's.

No one pays it any attention when driving past it, but then again, It's not a big Mickey head either.
