Considering Royal Carribean or Princess? Maybe?

We have cruised with Disney twice and Princess twice with our kids. Both times on Princess, we sailed the golden princess during easter week. The food is far superior to disney--except for the desserts. The pool areas are gorgeous and not nearly as crowded as disney's. Our boys (5 and 8) preferred Princess. There were plenty of lounge chairs. There was a miniature golf course. While the atmospehere was not quite as child friendly as on disney, there was still a lot for the kids to do. There were kid's menus for every meal. The personal choice dining --eat when you want and with who you want is very flexible. We never waited. I liked it much better than the assigned seating. However, some of the servers were downright surly!!! For the easter sailing, there were 3000 passengers of which 600 were kids.

Both times on Princess, our cabin stewards were incredible.

The private island is not nearly as nice as disney.

The kids clubs close for all meals and are not convenient. There is not a kiddie pool comparable to the mickey pool, however, there was an infant splash area. There were many families on the ship, many young couples and many older folks who did not seem to appreciate kids being on the ship.

For the week, we had two cabins with verandahs. These cost less than half what comparable accommodations on Disney would have cost.

Disney's embarkation procedure is so far superior to Princess! Princess's embarkation was pure bedlam!

On a scale of 1 to 10, including value for the money we rate the princess cruises a 9.9 and Disney a 9.3. Both are incredibly beautiful ships with many amenities. While Disney is magical, it is also expensive. We would like to try Royal Caribbean next.
