Considering Renting Points

Hi, My family is considering renting DVC points for a stay in Oct, 2006. I've read over all the FAQ's and such, but I still have a few questions.

1)When should I start looking for the points? We would like to stay in either BWV or BCV.
2)If we decide on BWV, is there a major difference between the SV Studios and the PV Studios? Is it really worth the extra ponts for the PV?
3)What should I expect in a contract. Should the deposit be equal to one nights stay? What about the balance, etc? I'm thinking that it will cost me about $10 - $12 per point. Is that also correct?

Thanks for all your help. I'm hoping my DH will love it and consider buying.

I can't answer everything, but will gladly share my experience in hopes of helping. I am not a DVC member; I am also renting points for an Oct. 2006 trip.

If you want to stay at the BCV or BWV, you should start looking for a member to rent from now. DVC members can book 11 months out at their "home" resort. Booking is open to all DVC members at 7 months. From what I've read, October is a very popular month for DVC resorts due to the Food & Wine Festival. The member I'm renting from made my ressies in November, her 11 month window.

This is my first time to rent, so I'm no expert. However, I followed the tips from these boards. So far it has been a great experience. My DVC member has been part of these boards for several years and has about 3000 posts. I read a variety of her posts to try to get to know a bit about her before sending her my money. She also has a contract that protects both of us. It states that she will remain a member in good standing & that I will pay the agreed upon price. I think most members would have something like this.

As far as payment requirements, each member is different. My contract required me to pay 50% up front and 50% 60 days before arrival. Some require 100% payment up front. I actually had one "offer" that would have required me to send money before she would even check availability at the resort. I personally wasn't comfortable with that.

I paid $11/point. I know there are some selling cheaper, but most of those are trying to get rid of points quickly. I was willing to pay a little more (which is still a GREAT deal!) to get my ressies made at 11 months out. Plus, I have a reputable DIS member who gives exceptional customer service!

I can't answer your question regarding the BWV, because I've never stayed there.

Hope this helps!

I agree, if you want to go in October, start looking now. There might not be an SV accomdations left. I made my ressies in November. When I rent my points, I require 50% of the total upon confirmation of the reservation and the remainder 60 days before check-in. Also, all payments are non-refundable. Those are pretty standard terms here on the DIS.

The upside to BCV is Stormalong Bay, the absolutely fantastic pool.

There are that many SV rooms, they are hard to get. So you definitely want to look for that now.
