We're considering doing Mickey's Backyard BBQ during our visit in July. We've done every other character meal in WDW, so we'd like to try something different.

Attending will be myself, DH, DD (age 12) and DS (age 9).

Any comments or suggestions?

Hi! We finally tried Mickey's Backyard Bar-b-que last month. Honestly, we had a good time, but we probably will never do it again. The food, character intervention, and music was great. However, since it is held outside is got very warm. The lights also made it very warm. We left about 30 minutes early. Also, we got quite bitten waiting for the boat to take us back to WL. The kids enjoyed it, but then again, they really do enjoy everything Disney.

We wanted to try this last September, but there just wasn't enough time to do it. I was thrilled to see that WDW has extended the normal run dates to include a few dates in December when we will be there this year. I plan on going. I think it will be a hoot. Mickey

We tried every other dinner show also. So decided to try Backyard BBQ last July. Six adult in young 20's and a 1 1/2 year old. Disappointed compared to other shows. Would not serve soda. Just iced tea, lemonade and beer. DH is a big soda drinker and was disappointed. Music was country. Gotta like country music. Lots of opportunity to meet characters. Did autographs and had photos taken. Food was average. Seats are not assigned like at other dinner shows. Seating consists of long picnic tables. Get in line early if you want a seat close to singing and dancing. Overall it was ok. Does not compare to Hoop de doo or Luau. Hope this helps. HAVE FUN!!

Thanks for all of your opinions.

Anyone else?

I went last August and it was hot and crowded - hard to do with very small children - much better for kids that are 5+ as you have to stand in line and get your food and then fight for a seat at the table. Music is fun if you like country music - your kids ar the right age to enjoy it too.
I would recommend it but not with an infant or during August!

We did it a couple of years ago, but since have always seemed to be there when it's not running (winter months!)

Anyway we had a great time. Family of six - four kids. Was outside (we were there in March) so we did have to put on jackets. Under a pavilion w/picnic table seating (seat yourself.) Middle has a stage and big dance area. As was said country music, which we are not into BUT characters were out on dance floor quite a bit of the time AND they taught line dancing, etc.

Basically we had a great time because we were willing to get up and learn the line dances and have fun. Also had our 1 1/2 and 4 yo w/us and they had fun. At one point my 4 yo ds was dancing w/chip (or dale) forget which one.
