i've been reading the posts on this board for about a month now and am considering joining the dvc. I"ve learned alot by reading this board but I still have a bunch of questions that i was hoping someone could help me with. #1 i live in NY which i know there is some state law that which is suppose to "save" you from this club. so my question is how can i get the info without sending it to a different state and when i want to join do i have to travel to a different state to sign up? Can you only join at wdw? #2 What resorts are for sale right now? Can you buy into akl and bc or do you have to wait until they are completed #3 What are the prices like right now and will they change this year or not until 2002. (if you could also include what the dues cost that would be great) I'm sorry there are soo many questions but I can't seem to get the info sent to me. Thanks for any info you guys have.

Currently Disney is selling VWL at WDW, Vero Beach and Hilton Head. The price is $72 with an announced increase to $75 in June (not sure of the date). DVC can sell Vero and Hilton Head in New York State but are waiting for clearance to sell VWL. It is expected shortly. Additional price increases can happen at any time.

Beach Club is expected to be the next DVC. It should be completed in fall 2002 and is not yet available for sale. There have been no official announcements of any other planned DVC resort.

Yearly dues are charged per point. 2001 dues for each resort are as follows:
OKW = $3.13
HH = $3.32
WLV = $3.63
BWV = $3.83
Vero= $3.97

Hope that helps get you started.

You can call DVC and ask to be called and sent literature as soon as Disney clears in NY. I believe someone on these boards said that it just cleared in CT, so hopefully it will happen soon here in NY. MB at VWL ( a program where you can sell back half your points as a down payment) will also be changing VERY SOON.( APRIL 1st) Right now Disney gives 10.00 per point, but it's dropping to 5.00 per point.
Hope this helps

thanks for the info. one more quick question. once you buy into a resort (example hilton head) is it possible to switch your "home" resort and if it is possible what charges are applied?

You can make reservations at the different resorts but you can't change your home. You buy a "real" real estate interest and that's what you own (a small portion of a unit) and the points are the way you use your real estate interest to make reservations. Currently, you can make reservations at your home resort 11-7 months out and at all other DVC resorts beginning at 7 months out from the end of your reservation.

Is so important. Once you purchase the only way to switch is to sell and buy at another, which would be expensive.If you are undecided I would try and visit the resorts, you will have an excellent idea after that.
Good Luck! :)

I am considering becoming a DVC member as well, and am also from NY. You can call and talk to them, ask any question you want. They will explain how it works, etc. They will also send you a video and hard cover book. I just ordered mine a little over a week ago, got it the other day. The video is short on information, but the book explains it all pretty well, has the "point charts", floor plans, pictures of each resort. Again, you can get all of this info. now, since they can sell VB and HH in NY, and the info. covers that as well. The number I called is 1-800-500-3990.

The only thing you can't do from NY is buy at VWL. For that you'll have to wait until they get approval to sell in NY or make a trip to FL.

And, of course, you can buy resale at anywhere you can find.

Hope this helps.

If you are intersted in Old Key West and Boardwalk which are sold out resorts these can be purchased through a resale broker.

We bought both through Disney and resale so have the experience of both transactions.

If you are interested in hearing more about buying resales you can send me an email.

Buying resales can save you some serious money if you have the patience.

Good luck
