Considering a new camera??? Do you sell online? ~ READ THIS FIRST!!!

Several months ago our local discount store was selling equipment meant for taking photos like these - cheaply. I will have to ask DH what was there as I didn't pay much attention to it (and I'll edit later). The one thing I recall was a small dark "box" (probably a foot square) that would be perfect for small items.

TinksDH, great photos. :thumbsup2

I will admit to a cheap little trick I used to do...
Its kinda questionable, and it's a bit controversial... but on certain items I would lay them on the steps in front of our "PLANT".

OK, first the story... My mother in law gave us a plastic Marijuana plant. I have no idea where SHE got it. (Well... maybe I do. A few members of her family would have liked the real thing...:rolleyes1:hippie:) Its incredibly realistic. Since we have a rain forest themed den, it fit right in. Its fun when people come over and we watch the looks on their face as they walk from the den to the kitchen and pass this life sized Marijuana plant thats planted in a planter with real dirt.:rotfl2:
I used to snap my pictures with the plant in the background. They seemed to get more page hits that way. :rotfl2: I'd always put in the description somewhere that "the plant in the background" was plastic and I'm ONLY selling the item photographed, and nothing more. On certain types of items it was a HIT!!! People would email and say their friend dropped them a link to this auction... They wanted to know where I got the fake plant. Those items always seemed to sell faster.:rolleyes1 :rotfl::confused3

For the record I have never ever done any illegal drugs.:littleangel:

SelfEmployedDebtFree, I agree with most of what you have said. Though, I disagree that you can not get good pictures with a cell phone camera. You need 3 things for a successful and profitable listing.
1- a good description of your product.
2- good ( not great ) pictures of your product that show what you are selling and stating in the listing. I.E. - chips, like you mentioned and do not have a distracting backgrounds.
3- know your product.

I have sold many and I mean many cars on craigslist with just a cell phone to take pictures with.

It's not the camera, it's the person using the camera, that is the problem.

If your referring to cars as in "the kind you drive" then yeah... I can see that as an option. Most cars look pretty-much the same. All you need are the details of engine size, make, model, options, reliabilty, etc. There isn't much to really see if your selling something like used automobiles. They are probably going to test drive it anyways, and they can see the details then. I'm referring more to smaller things like electronics, antiques (not necessarily beds and larger antiques), collectibles, and smaller furniture. If people need a car they are usually willing to settle for any picture. But if your selling a smaller item, like a used camera, and they are selling across country, thats a different story altogether.

But i know what you mean. If the person had a GOOD QUALITY cellphone camera (some are better than others) and if all the aspects are just perfect, (lighting, background, etc) it would be enough for someone to drive over and take a look atthe car for sale. If your using a cellphone to take a picture of a smaller item, and the picture is saturated with gray and amber color, and the camera looks more like a blurry rock, then you can't expect a buyer to NOT be more inclined to buy from the OTHER SELLER who is using a good camera, whos pictures are plenty and all high resolution.

yes why don't you try to use cellphone in cellphone you can sue it in many ways like in sending message, calling and you can also use it to capture photos, record some video, and listen some music that's why cellphone is really great
