Considering a cruise in January 2006 - Adults only...bad idea?

Hi,

My husband and I are running the WDW in January and my original thought was to do a 3 or 4 day cruise afterwards. Many said this was a bad idea as the waters would be choppy and that the cruises are really geared for children.

Anyone taken a cruise in January before? Any of you gone without children?

Thanks!

I don't know how the waters are in January, but there is nothing wrong with two adults going. Me & DH normally go with my parents and we all have a great time. There's plenty for adults to do and there are adult areas so you don't have to be around children. I think you would have a great time. Give it a try and if you don't like it, try something different next time. At least you can say you've been on a Disney cruise.

Disney Cruises are only geared for children?? Where did you hear that? It's like saying that Disney parks are only geared for children which is totally untrue. My fiance and I are going on a Disney cruise for our honeymoon and we know of many many others who have also gone on their honeymoons, anniversaries or just a vacation without kids.

If Disney cruises were only geared for kids then why do they have so many adult nightclubs, shows, adult only beaches, pools, programs, not to mention that they also have weddings on board etc....?

People who say Disney cruises are only geared for kids in my opinion have either never gone and/or are not Disney fans. But that is just my opinion.

Disney cruise line, like the Disney parks, knows how to cater to its audience. Yes they have a lot of activities to keep kids happy. The have almost an entire deck devoted to kids. The upside for families is: the kids are well taken care of. The upside for adults alone is: the kids are well taken care of. That means that they're not bored and looking to cause trouble.

Disney also has adults-only areas, so you can be as separated from the kids as you'd like to be.

We cruise Disney..adults only and we love it. There are plenty of adult only areas. We have found there are more kids on the 3/4 day cruises than the longer ones..but in January..after Christmas break..I would guess they would all be back in school since they just had long breaks.

As far as the water..can't help you there. The closest we have cruise to Jan, is March..and it was smooth then.

My DH and I are crusing DCL in sept. We read so many reviews about different cruiselines and decided on disney for a number of reasons. But mostly b/c of the spa, the adult only areas (which everyone and has is really well patrolled to keep younger people out), stateroom size, and the food. There's a lot of adult only things to do. I really want to go to the wine tasting and the spa.

Hi
We sailed in Jan. the first night was rough waters...but after that it was smooth sailin'
It was just me and BF and we dont have kids...it was worth every penny.

Trust me, we've sailed twice all grown up, and we loved every minute of it. Disney is very aware that while the Mouse caters to the kid in all of us, it's the adult in us that writes the checks, and if mom and dad don't enjoy themselves, they're not coming back.

For me, quite honestly, the whole thing is worth it for those hours spent on the adult beach at Castaway Cay. It's spooky silent. Just the wind and the waves. And the little dude with something frothy in a plastic conch shell.

First, I will say that DCL is a great choice for adults. DH surprised me with a 3-day Wonder last December for our 15th wedding anniversary. :love2: This was our 4th cruise on DCL, but our first without DS8. I think we were both amazed at how quiet some of the adult spaces were. We especially enjoyed Signals, the bar by the Quiet Cove pool. I am already trying to figure out when we can do our next adult only trip on the Wonder. :smooth: We had late seating, which I think was much quieter than early b/c most of the families had the 6:00 seating.

Second, we have sailed in Dec 2X, Jan 2X, and Feb 1X. Although we don't have anything to compare to those dates, the seas have always been pretty calm. As a matter of fact, we tend to get excited about a nice swell, but have not experienced that too often. :sad2:

My wife and have done an adult (no kids allowed) trip in Jan every year for the past three years. One of the best was a Disney Cruise. It was outr third. first without the kids. We enjoyed Castaway Cay very much. Even more that when we had our kids with us. We finally had time to explore the island - just the two of us - at our pace.

The water was a little was rough one night - didn't notice it any other time. We loved it and will probably do it again.

You guys have absolutely fantastic. If we can fit it in then I will do the cruise on January 12th. Now for all my questions on what type of room and where to get the best price :cool1:

We will be doing our 4th DCL cruise on Feb. 2. One out of the four will be with kids. (We have to rent the Nephews)

We sailed last year in January. As someone earlier said, the first night can be a little rocky going through the gulf stream, but we found that to be true in October too.

As for good prices. I just booked a cat. 11 through Dreams Unlimited for less than $800. Most everyone else was $845-945 for the same cruise. Just my thoughts, but for a short cruise, the interior rooms are just fine.

January waters weren't bad the two times we have cruised. First night was rough but that is passing the Gulf Stream, so it passed quick enough. Weather was perfect and we had a great time. Not sure about DCL for adults, no kids, but I did see plenty of places where there were no children and bet you could have a great time.

Our 5th Disney cruise was this past January and just my DW and I. All of the details are on our trip report, Second Honeymoon/Hurrican Jeanne Part II report.

We loved it!
