I think I could save money going there to get low lights/highlights??
Is there anything I have to be careful of going to a student for this dye service? Hope I'm not making a mistake.:confused3

I've gone to a student beauty salon for facials, hair cuts, massages and updo's. I've have a great experience with these services.

The student beauty salon has the instructors check and recheck in every section of the procedure. I've never done color, but I would do it as well!

I see a lot of people getting color while I've done other services and it is done really well. However this student salon is an Aveda salon.

The only thing I can add is that when I've gone it's taken forever. I had nails done there once, and it took 3 hours! :lmao:

I go to a local beauty school for cut and highlights. I have very thick, naturally curly hair which can be challenging to work with. I've never had a problem with the students' work. And it's a great money saver!

I would ask for a senior student. You pay a little more, but these are the ones with more experience.

My mom went to an Aveda school and it was a nightmare. Her hair looked awful and she had to go back and have the instructor fix her cut. Luckily, she tried them for a cut before having them do everything. The instructor agreed the girl didn't listen to what she was told and the cut was done wrong so it wasn't just my mom being picky. She is pretty laid back about her hair.

I have been going to a school for the last three years. I go every 4 weeks for a color and cut and have never had a problem. The teachers oversee all and double check the students work. Eight times out of ten the teacher is cutting my hair to show a student how it should be done.

Great savings, I pay $34 for a color touch-up and cut, you can't beat that, but I must admit it's time consuming. The student's are learning and they take their time to do it correctly.

The Aveda school I go to does things differently.. the newer students do shampoos, conditioning, and the styles on the Barbie type heads.. (its so funny to see a row of students working with the barbie heads).

Then they work on each other or volunteers.

The most senior students (ones closest to graduating) do paid clients. I just had my hair cut two weeks ago. My stylist was going to graduate end of June.

At every type of change, the stylist did it, had the instructor come over and check it. At one point the instructor started her and she followed her lead.

I go to an Aveda school too. Here, in Toronto, there is a floor with the newer students for lower prices and another floor with the main salon with advanced students. Still low prices just not as low. I love it. I've always had great cuts and color.

hmm...so ive never heard of this, or considered this, but it seems like a great idea!! what do you do to get the appointments? are they only done at certain times, and you just show up, or do they take appointments in advance??

I have had great coloring done but it does take them forever to do it.

My oldest is going to beauty school. I get 1/2 off so my cut and color is....
$11.50!

ITA about it taking forever- takes them at least 4 hours for my chin length angled bob. But it is the most exact cut and color you can get with all the checking and double checking. Highly recommend it!

I haven't been to one in years but use to get my hair colored there and years before perms and always been happy with the results. It does take alot longer because they are still learning and want to do it right.

I agree schools are a great deal. Sometimes it doesn't take them much longer. If you really think about it, a month later that same student could be the same person you would run into at a salon! It amuses me to think about how much people worry about going to a school when the average career span of a stylist is 2 years. This means girls in a school and your average stylist in a salon aren't really that far apart in experience and at the school somebody at least checks their work!

I've used them many times. My biggest complaint is how long it takes. 5 hours for full highlights, ouch! Other than that I have always been pleased with the results *knocks on wood* ... far more than the salons where I pay $100+ !!!
