I do have conservative flair, too. People always "gift" them to me. I have had a few send some pretty ugly anti-Obama things but I don't display them on my "flair board." I know it's hard to believe that a conservative can be compassionate ;) but I really don't want to post things which might offend my liberal friends.

Which brings up a question for everyone. Are most of your friends conservative like you? I have no close friends that are. Most of my friends are not very political, but lean left. A few are very left. I don't know how we manage to get along, with me being such a closedminded, far right wing nutjob, neo-con and all.

I live in Unionland so Republicans are few and far between. Besides my parents and siblings (and husband), I have very few conservative friends.
I have very few conservative friends too. I feel all alone.

Heck, all of my friends are conservatives, and I'm the only liberal in the group, so I have no problem w/being friends w/conservatives outside the political ring, but once politics are brought up, its onnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!
LOL! I LOVE your signature! Too funny!!!

Our society, as a whole; every person, every color, every religion, every sexual orientation, needs to stop playing the blame game when their life isn’t moving in the direction that they want and re-learn what the terms “hard work” and “great achievements” mean. Our society, as a whole, is too lazy to want that and their kids are being brought up to work little and blame hard. It is in their laziness that they use a “victim card” as a crutch – and there are many victim cards that can apply to everyone of all colors, all genders, all religions and all sexual orientations.
This is the BEST POST EVER.

I'll preface the comments with stating I haven't read the book. However, it's so very true. The founding fathers believed in freedom OF religion -- not freedom FROM religion. It's a distinction that I think a lot of people either don't get or conveniently forget.

Btw, first time responder in this thread. Now to see if I can keep up with things. Stuff moves so quickly here it seems!
Welcome to the thread. Love your avatar.

Hello conservatives. Hope all of you are well.

Been busy and my internet time has been sorely restricted.

One observation and something that has been bugging me about the upcoming inauguration.....

Why in the world is President Obama so insistent on using Abraham Lincoln as a prop for his inauguration?

  • He is being sworn in using Lincoln's Bible.
  • His inaugural dinner is inspired by Lincoln.
  • He is being driven to the inauguration in a Lincoln.
  • He recently spent time at the Lincoln Memorial -(purportedly for private reflection, yet somehow all the media was notified- have they all had their "tingly leg" alarm installed already?)
The only thing he is lacking at this point is a funny beard with no moustache and a top hat!

Frankly, I think it is a hubric reach (along the lines of his "over the freakin' top" Berlin speech).

I am thinking he should consider something along the lines of:

  • Swear in using Jimmy Carter's Bible (you know, the one that doesn't say "Israel" anywhere in it.
  • Inaugural dinner inspired by William Taft.
  • Get pulled to the inauguration by Al Gore in a Rickshaw
  • Spend some reflective time at Arlington National Cemetary.
If he starts out his inaugural address with "Fourscore and......"

:)
2nd best post ever.

Who's in charge of vetting? And the guy in charge of IRS shouldn't have tax issues right?

WASHINGTON (AP) - President-elect Barack Obama's choice to run the Treasury Department and lead the economic rescue effort disclosed to senators Tuesday that he failed to pay $34,000 in taxes from 2001 to 2004, a last-minute complication in an otherwise smooth path to confirmation.

Timothy Geithner paid most of the past-due taxes days before Obama announced his nomination in November, an Obama transition official said. The unpaid taxes were discovered by Obama's transition team while investigating Geithner's background, the official said.

The transition official requested anonymity because the source was not authorized to discuss Geithner's situation.

Obama reiterated his support Tuesday for Geithner as senators who are considering the appointment quizzed Geithner behind closed doors.

Geithner failed to pay self-employment taxes for money he earned while working for the International Monetary Fund from 2001 to 2003, the transition official said. In 2006, the IRS notified him that he owed $14,847 in self-employment taxes and $2,383 in penalties from 2003 and 2004.

Transition officials discovered last fall that Geithner also had not paid the taxes in 2001 or 2002. He paid $25,970 in taxes and interest for those years several days before Obama announced his nomination, the transition official said.
Well I feel secure about our US Treasury (not). Welcome to the thread!
Hey everyone! I am THRILLED to have found the conservative/Republican thread! It seems like we are in the minority these days, but the truth is we're usually just quiet so we're not slammed all the time about Bush, the war, etc.

A little about me, at 21 this was the first Presidential election I was able to vote in. I also became very heavily involved as a volunteer, and am continuing my work by being a member of our county's Republican Executive Committee and starting a youth outreach program for teens to educate them about the truth of our party and what it stands for (tax hating, gun toting, god loving Republicans! J/K we talk history, policy, etc :) ). I have been married for 2 1/2 years and we're thinking about starting a family next year...and I don't want my kids to grow up in a socialist society.

I am frankly afraid of what will conspire in the next 2 years. I say 2 because in 2010 the GOP is going to kick some donkey in the Senate elections when everyone realizes just what "civilian militia" and "share the wealth" really means.

That article about the ammunition is scary and stupid for several reasons. Scary: they are essentially removing our right to protect ourselves, not to mention the ammunition that needs to be destroyed? How will they find that? Oh, wait, yeah that civilian militia Obama wants...Stupid: Um, bullets usually don't make it out of a person in pristine condition, they are flattened. How are they going to get these little numbers off them? Someone could steal you're specially coded ammo. Criminals aren't getting the guns they use legally. Do they think they are buying the ammo at their local Wal Mart? Get real.

So...on the lighter side I have two cats and a dog, like to scrapbook, craft and crochet, love all things Disney and go to WDW roughly once a month. I work at a bank and like to just hang out with my hubby.
Welcome to the thread! Glad to see so many young people here!

freeing the slaves was an excellent tactic. plantations depended upon this type of labor. once the laborers were gone, plantations failed (one of my ancestors (ben ogle) was bankrupt as a result and he was not the only one). this was absolutely intentional, and it worked. my ancestors released 41 slaves. they didn't all know what to do, so they became paid servants and laborers. they had always been treated well, had food, clothing, warmth, and somebody to take care of them. so they stayed.

unfortunately, in an attempt to make those of us living hundreds of years later feel guilty for something we couldn't possibly have any responsibility for, children have been told for years that freeing slaves was the purpose of the war between the states. guilt is a ridiculous emotion to attempt to conjur over this (and claiming the u.s. territories from indians), when that is simply the way things were then. that is how things were.

i have a cd with the ORIGINAL lyrics from aladdin. do you guys remember when the arab community was up in arms because they thought the lyrics were unfair, "where they cut off your head if they don't like your face, is barbaric, but hey, it's home"? i was gobsmacked when disney folded and changed the lyrics. not only do the lyrics reflect the situation at the time, as we've so very sadly seen, it is the way things are still done.

who do people think they're fooling?
I absolutely remember - I worked in a movie theater and we talked about that a lot. I have the original CD too, but the video I have has the edited version.

Hi guys! I don't have the whole story but what is up with this Tim Geither not paying taxes? What are these people thinking he can't figure out his own taxes and he is going to head treasury? I just don't understand? I just don't. Is there no one in this entire country who is both honest and can do the job?
Like I said, I'm feeling very good about our US Treasury right now.
Forget the guards and barriers...what about the Port-a-potties? Apparently there's a college professor who believes that there will be lawsuits due to lack of port-a-potties.
LOL!!! Who's gonna pay for that?

What a way to start out a new Presidency - with a literal sh*t storm.
I really like you.

Obama's very much a "Do as I say not Do as I do" type of person. Rules - and his rules - apply to all except him. He shouldn't do a big bash but give some of that money to homeless shelters - or something - nationwide.

Obama... Seattle... port-a-potties....:lmao:
There won't be any set up over graves at Arlington National Cemetery - will there?

(Anyone that paid attention to the Democratic Primaries should know what I'm referencing.....)
I missed it Dolce - would you mind reminding us? Thanks.

This may be a better likeness....

LOL!!!!! Very funny.

I'm reading "The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Constitution" and it's very good. Finished Glenn Beck's book (good) and after the Constitution book I'm reading, I hope to read the McCollough's book about John Adams. My sister also loved it (echoing all of you here on the thread). She has read every American history book in her public library. She reads about two history books a week AND she teaches full time. How she does that, I don't know.

Where do you find the smilies that aren't on the normal list?

Not necessarily the puke ones. (What's with us? Or are we just practicing?)

I'm reading Jonah Goldberg right now, Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left.
I'm waiting on Ann Coulter's Guilty: Liberal "Victims" And Their Assault on America to come from the library. I've had it on hold for a long time, believe it or not!

Wonder's been puking all over the thread.:cool1:

What's up with you this evening Decorated Dust?

I've been working all night, and I just got back, otherwise I'm fine. I'm trying to find a good time to hop into podcast chat. Oh yeah, and I think classes are going to drive me crazy. :confused3

Anyway, how goes it with you?
