Thank you for your perspective!! I think the same thing. I have met atheists who get irritated every time I even suggest I'm praying for them.

that'd be like saying, "don't be nice to me, don't care about me, don't respect me...." it's absurd. people can only give what they have inside them to give. people who believe in God, have prayers to give. anybody who doesn't recognize that as special is just being unreasonable.

so since i don't have that to give, i offer my charm and wonderful sense of humor!!!! seriously, i keep good thoughts for people and offer assistance whether or not it seems necessary, and i try to be a good person. that is what i have to offer. and baked goods. i offer cookies and muffins. whatever is in my power to offer, i offer it. just not in the form of higher taxes. (so many qualifiers here...sorry.)

Sorry to get off-topic here, but I am down to 2 weeks before my trip, and I still can't decide if I should get us all AP's, or just me (I have to in order to get the hotel rate). Decisions, decisions...

I want to get us all AP's, but don't know if financially that is a good move.

i vote for all APs, 'cause what if one of your children were invited to go with another family...admission to the parks would already be paid!!!

probably people think i am a believer because i understand what they are talking about and they never ask otherwise. and i'm conservative...i guess conservative atheists are unusual (?) go figure!

Conservatives who are not religious see no need to cast dispersions upon those who feel differently about religion or no religion, or whatever the case may be. I think that is why non-religious conservatives aren't recognized as readily/

Also, wonderlanne, as an art historian, what was up with those scary Hieronymus Bosch paintings? That is some visual imagery he painted.

I didn't know Wonder was an atheist. Does that matter?? No, of course not. I know many non-religious people (several atheists) and our religious differences do NOT get in the way of our friendships. I don't care what religion someone is- so long as they're a good, caring person with an equally good heart, that's good enough. I pray for non-believers, but then again, I pray for everyone and everything (even my aunt's cats and dogs).

I'll let you know. He recommended it after my Dad asked some questions over Christmas that I answered, but wasn't sure if I answered correctly. My pastor said it was a good one that deals with a lot of tough questions.

not at all!!!! i think that is the greatest gift believers are able to give. i think is about as kind a thing as it can be. makes me feel like this. that somebody would offer.

nobody here has ever been preachy...you are believers and i think that's really neat.

I'm not a particularly religious person — and Lord knows ( )I think one religion in particular is the source of much of the world's problems today , but I get seriously irritated at the Christian bashing that goes on on these boards sometimes. People will say anti-Christian things here that they would never in a million years say about Muslims or Jews. Honestly, I have seen people in a single post completely defend and rationalize some Jihadist terror spree, and then launch into an anti-Christian tirade, and I am like, "Are you kidding me?!" I think Christian bashing is one of the last prejudices that's just fully acceptable to a lot of people. Look at TV shows like Saturday Night Live, Bill Maher, Jon Daily, etc. They will do anti-Christian stuff all the time — some of it really vile and offensive — but won't touch the lunacy of Islamic fundamentalism with a 10-foot pole — and they'll criticize others who do and call them bigots! People think nothing of calling George Bush a "Christian right winger" — simply because he's Christian — but we aren't even allowed to talk about the fact the Barack Obama once practiced a faith that believes non-believers should be killed or converted by force. As I said, I'm not a terribly religious person, but I sure do recognize bigotry and intolerance when I see it — and when it comes to anti-Christian bigotry, I see it a lot.

HA! how 'bout that "earthly delight" triptych, huh? man...if i didn't have a place to put a bouquet of flowers, i'd probably use a toothbrush holder or something, but not this guy!

It's a good book, as is The Case for Christ. The Case for a Creator is pushing it, since Christ's existence basically gives the Old Testament legitimacy, so the first two are enough. Also, I am not very apt to trust Christian science, since all the teachers at my school don't really consider it good.

I think it could be an interesting discussion, but what is bound to ruin it is the defensive nature from some on both sides. My religion is very private to me and so I don't generally engage in discussions about it. I actually hopped on one tonight and realized why it's best I stay out of them.

It's sad, but I agree. An entire new generation is being taught that Christianity is irrelevant and intolerant when that is not always the case.

I also see some people say that radical Christians are just as dangerous as radical Muslims. I'll let ya'll, religious or non-religious, take a look at all that is wrong with that statement.

Btw, it's Jon Stewart and the Daily Show. Sorry to be the know-it-all, but I didn't want your street cred to go down.
