Conservative thread: We're still smiling!

I think the next four years are going to show us some double standards that'll make your head spin. Let's start with this: If a Republican president were about to be inaugurated in this bad economy, how many stories do you think we would have seen by now about the "appropriateness" of having a multi-million dollar gala when people are suffering and losing their homes? How many calls would there have been by now for the celebration to be "toned down" out of respect for all the Americans going without this year? Yet, The One will probably have the most expensive inauguration in American history, and not a chirp from the chattering media. They'll trip the light fantastic at their fabulous — and expensive — balls, and no one will say
a word about how tacky it is. But if it were a Republican? They'd be screaming from the top of the New York Times building that he just "doesn't get it."

Oh yeah, ready yourselves for the double-standard bonanza of the next four years. The only silver lining is that being slavish devotees of democrat politicians has just about ruined the American media — NYT stock down 20% this year alone, newspapers all over the country laying off workers — so perhaps they'll be looking for a new approach to bring their value back up — like, ummm, reporting honestly and accurately. (One can dream, right?) :rotfl: :rotfl:

:thumbsup2 (i'm too tired to do anything but thumbs today.)

Yanno, I'm really tired of the double-standard. I was watching Oprah today and they had Nate (the decorator) on and he redid a kitchen (45 years old and NEVER updated!!!). The family was black. When they had the couple (the daughters sent in the request for the makeover) on the stage after showing the their reaction to Nate's visit (he was waiting for them in the house (which he usually doesn't do)), Oprah said (I'm paraphrasing) "I bet you were wondering what this white boy was doing in your kitchen". The couple only said they were surprised to see a stranger.

Now imagine if it were a white host, a white family and a black decorator and the host said something like that (finding a "black boy in your kitchen") you can bet there would be claims of racism.

Enough is enough already.

What was the point in such a comment?? She's an idiot. Go start a new thread about this. I want to see someone defend that crap. :teeth:

Merry Day After Christmas to you too! My husband comes home on leave Jan 18th. :cool1: He comes home for good some time in early June.
I'm so glad he comes home soon, if only for a while.

Sigh. Me too.

Well, we stimulated the economy today and did our own little mini-bailout of Chrysler. We bought a Dodge Grand Caravan. It's nice, it's red and it's in our driveway right now. I think I'm gonna go read the manual. How's that for fun on a Friday night?

Oh believe me, there will be some defending it. Why, I can think of four such defenders off the top of my head.:rolleyes1

Ok MM, consider that ride on Buzz Lightyear done! :thumbsup2 Tomorrow is Epcot- Soarin' at last! :woohoo:

 That is so hard to deal with. I had a 90-lb Shephard Husky mix and got a call from the local police one day that he had bit a child! :scared1: Come to find out, my dog had nipped my neighbor's son's ankle. He didn't telll anyone because it didn't break the skin (there was a mark on his ankle though) and they were running and playing. The dog was never off his leash and my daughter had him out in the yard between the houses. Well, the next day the kid has a test at school that he didn't want to take, so he tells the teacher that his ankle hurts because a dog bit him. So the school nurse calls the police (as required by law), the police call me and I had to quarantine the dog for 14 days (if I remember correctly). He was up to date on his shots but it was a law (I lived in NJ at the time.) The boy was very embarrassed, his family was very apologetic and I was just very relieved that my dog didn't hurt him. The dog was really just a big baby (Patches was his name but Cement Head was his nickname!)

I'm glad the child wasn't injured more severely and understand the scare you had. More

Donna, thank for telling me about that - I hate that this happened to your family but it is good to hear that you and your dog survived it...14 day quarantine! I would have freaked ... and my friend [the boy's mother] left a message today to see how I was doing...what a sweetheart...

Anybody else have trouble sleeping in hotel rooms? I keep waking up during the night. I don't do that at home.

All the time - sleeping in general doesn't come easy but when I'm in an unfamiliar place, it's really hard....what a drag, especially since you were so tired - here's hoping for some rest today...

It's not over for us yet. Our massive holiday party is Saturday. Inlaws are staying until then. :scared: They went out to the store, so I'm enjoying some quiet. :rolleyes1 DD has made out like a bandit. :cutie: I got my KitchenAid mixer :yay: - so I'm going to attempt to bake cookies today. popcorn::

woo-hoo about the stand mixer! I bought myself a Bosch a few years ago - I had read that Bosch does a great job with bread dough and that I can make seven loaves of bread at a time. It was only after I purchased the sucker that I realized - 'what the heck would lil ole me do with seven loaves of bread at the same time?!?!?!?' And I love red accessories too - sadly my Bosch only comes in white...

We had a very nice Christmas. The kids got us up too early, but other than that, we had a wonderful time. DH gave me an Ipod, so guess what I'll be doing today? I also got some Target and Barnes and Noble gift cards. Can't wait to use them. :) We were able to travel across the state to see DH's family, so that was nice. The roads were a little iffy on the way back home and we almost hit 4 deer, but we got home safely.

So, did y'all have something besides ham and cookies again this year? ;)

 Just wanted to check in and say HEY! It's at least 80 degrees today with zero clouds in the sky! Hit DHS again this morning for TSM and my new favorite besides Soarin'- RnRC! Rode it twice! Once for wardfamily1 per request and the other time for Zip, since his location says G-Force Records Studio C. :teeth: Off to MK after lunch so get your ride requests in now! :thumbsup2 And I'm gone for awhile. :grouphug:

Was TSM as fun as I've heard?

Buzz Lightyear Buzz Lightyear Buzz Lightyear.

My favorite ride hands down.

Glad you're having a fantabulous time!!!

I need to make a list of everyone's faves for when I go to WDW - in a month - woo hooo!!!!

You are, unfortunately and completely, correct --

by the way, how's your friend doing?

You are so right about this, too - I don't even want to talk about the Blago scandal and what would happen if this was a Republican administration going into office with this over their heads...and don't y'all think that this push to get rid of him [Blago] before he even goes to trial is all part of getting him out of the way so he doesn't run the risk of incriminating H further?

Congratulations on being so patriotic, MM! I was car-shopping a couple of years ago and was offered a good deal on a red Mazda. It was cute as a button but I wondered if I would get tired of it. Two years later and I love that color as much as I did when I first got it. And I never lose it in the parking lot.

Ok MM, consider that ride on Buzz Lightyear done! :thumbsup2 Tomorrow is Epcot- Soarin' at last! :woohoo:

Make sure they put the orange smell in there this time!

LOL - yes we did have something besides ham and cookies. We had cheese and crackers!

I baked two pies and brought potatoes, so we also had that. My poor kids - they won't ever know what a real Christmas dinner is! I'm used to the whole shebang - three meats, two potatoes, two veggies, salad, several pies, lots of cookies, cheese and meat trays, you name it.

The ham wasn't even "real" ham - it was from a deli.

BUT, that all being said, the food doesn't really matter. I love my inlaws to death - they are such wonderful people and treat me like a princess. I'm so fortunate to have such wonderful inlaws so not having a meal at Christmas really isn't a big deal at all. It's being with them that counts.

What was really great about it was that I was able to see DH's Grandpa again. I just love that man. We sit and talk for hours. He is such a wealth of knowledge and history and I just sit there and absorb it all. I love talking with him. He's a wonderful guy.

Back to the car: I really didn't want a red van, but now that I have it, it's beautiful! I love it. The sales guy was great - we lined the floor of the car with paper from the service department so the mud from my kids' boots wouldn't destroy the carpeting right away. Wasn't that nice? It's a beautiful car. :)

Have a good night -DH is kicking me off the computer so he can play a game. Merry Belated Christmas to anyone who is just signing on.

Hello, my fellow conservatives! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. Ours was wonderful. Great food, family fun, and a new puppy! The kids are on cloud nine :cloud9: but what's really got me tickled pink is how much my dh loves this little guy.

His name is Reagan. Isn't he the cutest???

OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH!!!!!!!! A PUPPY!!!!! PRECIOUS!!!!!!!

Hi guys. I got OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY today1  Once I was out the roads were pretty good. I only hit one bad spot. Unfortunately coming back in was not so great. My driveway is long, and uphill. Fortunately I had used my friend's shovel (he brought it to me yesterday) and completely cleared the concrete pad at the bottom---the rest is dirt. But with the bottom cleared at least I could get a solid start at heading up the driveway. I got stuck on the steepest part, which is maybe 25 feet from the bottom...but I picked up cat litter while I was out so I sprinkled a bag around and made it up that part. Got stuck again near the top, and that time was a lot harder to get unstuck (second bag of cat litter didn't quite do it and I had to go get the shovel). But I made it!

Now I'm sitting here catching up with you guys and having some lovely leftovers. Prime rib heated in the leftover gravy, and some baked leftover mashed potatoes. Oh yum yum yum. :goodvibes Comfort food is even more comforting after getting stuck in the snow.

Yanno, I'm really tired of the double-standard. I was watching Oprah today

That was your first mistake...

And I completely agree with you on the rest.

I'm so glad he comes home soon, if only for a while.

Sigh. Me too.

Hey all! Hope everybody had a happy Christmas Day (if you'uns celebrate such a thing, that is :goodvibes )

It was a great one at Doodah manor. The kids got Nintendo DS's which they seem to be enchanted with. After we watched the WDW parade we went over to my parents' house. I think there were about 40 of us there -just a great great time. DW and I took over about 80% of the cooking (since my mom broke her rib last weekend), and pulled it off without a hitch. :) All in all, just a smashing day. Best of all, I thought about baby Jesus a lot.

Trinity is a fabulous mascot too. And as his name says...three is a good number (for mascots too).

My kids got DS's also. They were special presents from their daddy...something usually out of our price range for a single gift. They are loving them. :) My daughter has asked me to email dad and thank him again several times.
